Dish network & dish internet?

I have never had a tv in the truck. I was at a truck stop one time and a guy on the cb was installing something I think for vuqube. He was charging 800 bucks and keeping busy. Drivers kept saying over here when you are done. I was thinking ya'll are nuts....

 

We were going to do that, and they (Direct TV) were going to let us suspend the box at home while we were on the road ( we would have had a smaller dish for the truck, as well as a box)....but where we live, they could not get a signal because of the trees, and the landlord will not let us trim any of them.

Dish Network for TV sounds nice. Dish internet has limitations just like Air Cards. Read the Fair Access Policy on Wild Blue's website. (Dish internet powered by Wild Blue) After 7.5GB w/Value Pak plan Wild Blue will slow down or kill your Internet. Most satellite ISPs use rules like this, Beware

What about entertainment you say? You can Rip DVD to hard drive w/DVDFab. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVDFab ) If you have a home computer w/Vista or 7 Home premium install a TV-card and record the shows you love. Use http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LogMeIn Free to remote control your Media Center PC from on the road. Copy your recorded shows to hard drive if/when you get home. Hope This Helps

 

I rip my DVDs to an external hard drive. I have 300+ movies on a box the size of a deck of cards, and leave the DVDs at home.

 

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Wild Blue still require a land line to handle
outgoing data?

 

DirectTV/Hughs Internet has an unadvertised throughput limit at which time they will clamp your service to a slow crawl until you call and complain.

Bulky two way sat dish not well suited for a truck

 

VuQube V10: needs to "be aimed" and vehicle stopped. About $600.
VuQube V20: doesn't "need to be aimed" for about $1100
VuQube V30: doesn't "need to be aimed" and also works while moving for about $1400.

No - the Qube does not receive internet - just satellite TV. There is a company called "MotoSat" that does both, but last time I looked it was bulky and expensive to get a solution for both TV and Interent that way. But you could still Google them and see what they are offering these days.

For interent, use an aircard from one of the providers. They are all about $60 per month with a 5Gig limit before you start paying the big-bucks.

 

The satellite internet is still stuck in the dark ages. When I had Wild Blue it was limited to 18gb a month, so they've already cut it down. That's not on a hard reset like an aircard either. It's a rolling total like the hours in your logbook. Sat also has a minimum of 6 full seconds of lag at all times due to the distance it needs to travel. It's not worth it at all.

 

I'm seeing these for sale in the Pilots. Anyone have one and willing to give us a review?
