Well, after a long six months in school, it looks like I'm finally heading out on the open road. I had my pretrip, skills and road test Wednesday and passed with flying colors. I'm now the proud owner of a CDL. Most expensive piece of plastic I've ever owned lol
I leave out Sunday night for Southaven, MS for orientation at Builders Transportation Co Monday morning. I'm pretty excited to call myself a flatbedder. I hear it's hard work but after being a roofer for the past three years, I wouldn't have it any other way.
Let me say a big thank you to this forum. I haven't been terribly active on here posting-wise, but I spend alot of time reading threads, trying to gain more knowledge for what's ahead. Maybe after I'm out on the open road, I'll be a more useful poster lol And hopefully I'll get to meet some of you great people out there.
On a side note, does anyone on here work for Builders?

Ive been with builders since June... on my own since the end of July. Going well so far. Its my first driving job though also so it was rough getting started. Always rolling. Been home every single weekend except for one. Any other questions just ask...
wyio Thanks this. -
I have a few for you Mr. D. I have been driving for the past 6 years but I don't have flatbed experience. Do they hire without flatbed experience? What is their main operating area, orientation- how do they get you there (bus, rental car) and where do they hold it. Thanks a bunch.

I can answer your question.... The original poster is fresh out of CDL school..... Has never driven commericially. He has no flatbed experience as of yet....
They hired him. -
I hate to say i work here also

Yeah, what REDD said... they will hire with no flatbed experience. They're going to have you go out with a trainer but I don't recall for how long since you do have driving experience. Mostly operate in the southeast, midwest, and northeast. I havent been farther north than Massachusetts so far, no further west than Kansas City. Orientation is 3 days. Monday through Wednesday. They pay for a greyhound bus ticket, although if you talk to the recruiter Trayce, he might be able to reimburse for a rental car up to the amount of a bus ticket. They hold it at the terminal in Memphis. They put you up in a fairfield inn hotel in Southaven MS, which is pretty nice especially with so many places to eat, and a super walmart.
Why do you say that 71mack? Just curious.TDriver4Life Thanks this. -
i spend most of my days waiting for reloads, still havent been paid for a load two weeks ago.

How is orientation and the training period? One of my friends was up there last week and said it sucked. But he quit because they wanted to put him in the northeast region and he didn't want to drive on ice or be stuck in a truck with another guy for 4 weeks so his word isn't to be trusted entirely.
What part of the country do you run 71mack? And Mr. D, how many miles a week do you average? -
good luck man
