There was a guy I worked with in the early to mid 90's that had a real nice dodge dually 4x4. Anyway he and some city driver got into a pissing match over his dually versus a 24' Mack straight truck. I have not a clue what the Mack had for gears or engine but I'd guess between 180-250hp and maybe somewhere around 4.56 gears? At first it seemed like the Dodge was going to give the glamour-less, ho-hum Mack straight truck a run for it's money, but once the Dodge broke traction, the Mack dragged the Dodge around the parking lot like a 6' 230lb High School Varsity Center swinging around a 50lb kindergarden kid. That video kinda reminded me of that.
I was recently rear ended at a dead stop by a kenworth

Well Neckpain, I don't know what to say about this. We all know that stuff happens that shouldn't. I think you consulting an attorney is probably the right thing to do here.
Palazon Thanks this. -
Years ago when I had my 97 w900 I rear ended a little Honda while I was driving through city traffic, I let another truck in front of me and I didn't see the little car sneak in at the same time, he was so close I would have never seen him, all I felt was a little bump, and next thing I know there is a guy standing on my step yelling and screaming about how I should look where I was going,
I think if that driver who hit you was paying attention he would have known he was coming up on a stopped vehicle. If I felt like I was hitting something I would stop and see what the hell I was hitting. -
I really don't care what they claim about those crash tests. Just looking at that thing, it appears to me that if you are in a collision with anything larger than a bumble-bee, you are going to be in trouble.
It has long been known that when to vehicles collide, the occupants of the larger, heavier vehicle usually make out better than the occupants of the smaller, lighter vehicle. Now admittedly, there have been drastic changes in vehicles since I was out scraping up the remains off the pavement on a regular basis. But I still think the laws of physics have got to apply here. -
Yeah, basically the car will survive. They ran one into concrete highway barriers at 70mph and the passenger cabin was intact. The door even opened. But at that speed, your organs would explode on impact. There's also the fact that if that tiny thing hit my Cadillac head on, I'd roll right over it like a speed bump. Wouldn't even feel it in a truck.
For a truck that large, 3000lbs isn't much at all. They're designed to haul around 47,000lbs plus the weight of the truck itself. Putting 3k on my truck is like a fly on the back of an elephant. It sounds like it was a mistake to me. I wouldn't worry about it. Trust me, if a truck driver really wants to kill you, he'll get out of his truck and say so.Last edited: Oct 11, 2010

A friend of mine and I went out to lunch while waiting on loads down in Laredo. We had just left the restaurant and was sitting at a red light with 3 lanes going in our direction. On my right side, a regular sized car had cut the hood of their car over in front of my hood and I never saw them when the light turned green. Luckily my friend was riding with me and she told me they were there cause I would have hit the car otherwise.
I sit with my seat in a comfortable position where I can reach the pedals without causing pain in my knees. I'm not sitting on the floor but my head is not touching the ceiling either. Also, when I pull out from a fuel island I have to double check to make sure one of my fellow truckers has not walked in front of my truck to closely. I have a huge blind spot in the front of every truck I have ever drove. I currently drive a kw t600 so i don't have a huge hood and considering the blind spot I have now, I would probably choose not to ever drive one of those ext hoods.
There is not enough details to make a call on your story and there is always two sides to a story. I sure hate you got hit though. Wouldn't it be wonderful if technology would bring us to a place where there were no more accidents?

I was just thinking, not being a trucker myself, but won't one of those rear parking camera thingy be very helpful in this kind of situation? Mounted on the hood and facing forward of course. Or even those sensor type that just beeps. They're getting rather common these days, they can't be that expensive, especially in lieu of potential hassle and damage.

Yeah, they would. A lot of trucks have them. They sell them in sets so you can record in all directions. A lot of companies have policies that prevent the driver from making any modifications to the truck like that though.
