Like the Clash once asked, should I stay or should I go

    Here's the thing... I have been at a small company in south Ga. for 18 mnths. I make .35 a mile an get home when I want and stay out when I want, been home since Thursday afternoon and was home every night last week. I pretty much go when an where I want.Took wife with me a few weeks ago to Spokane Wa. got empty on Thursday and was asked to stay until Monday for a high paying load. I asked for a motel and rental car so we could sight see,no problem. I have made $41000 so far this year and they are good to me. Those are the positive's. The negitive's are, they lease trucks through ryder and they are junk, very small (just a seat/bed basiclly), the southeast business we did in the past is shrinking so I have to stay out longer an go farther to make as much and the truck is very uncomfortable, they expect me to run illegal and everything has to be delivered first thing in the morning no matter how far. no benifits, no bonuses, .35 is top pay no more, can't take truck home so I drive 30 miles each way to work wasting my fuel.

    I have talked to a few Celedon drivers in the past few weeks and they all had positive things to say.I called and am in orientation in 2 weeks. I am getting worried that I am letting a few negitives about the truck lead me from a good job to Celedon and they will turn out to be awful. Are there any current Celedon drivers that can give me some help. Like I said the ones I talked to on the road seemed very happy and they all drove big new Prostars so.........

    Dude run the F away from Celadon........if you are making 41k stay and try to find a more legit small outfit to run for. I ran for Celadon and the first 6 months were ok to pretty good...within two months after that I WAS BEGGING TO WORK!!!!!!

    Now just to set the record straight...I had ...NO late p/u, or deliveries, I had NO...tickets or accidents......I DID NOT WHINE about where I went, I would stay out 2-3 weeks and then end up with 4-5 days off...sounds good but the way it always seemed to go I ended up with a very small check when I came back out because they for some reason couldnt get me miles......
    But it's your ride your life....there is no way I would go back there or to a company that has quallcoms and gutted trucks......just not gonna happen

    If you stay in this biz, you'll see ALL trucking companies have their quirks. You listed yours. So you have to decide if you can live with their rules or not. You won't know if the grass is "greener" unless you make the switch, right? My crystal ball is not working right now, so, you're on your own.

    It's always a toss up as to which way to go. Getting away from a company with crappy equipment and lousy safety concerns is always a good idea. I'm a bit biased on Celadon on the bad side of the fence, but that's from personal experience (RRNik is my hubby). Use the search feature on here, and see what others have to say about the company. There are other Celadon drivers on here.

    I was in about the very same situation bout 3 years ago.I was with a company I liked but not very good equipment and I thought I could make more $$ elsewhere....-I left,and without all the boring details,I have been more less wandering around in the wilderness ever since.The moral of this short story(for me)if ever I sign on with another company that I am SORT OF HAPPY with,I will be there for life......Be very,very careful!:biggrin_25524:

    Ept88 do you have 18 months experience then,if so your making more than other drivers with the same experience. The only difference I see is that your topped out in pay at .35,other co.s will top out higher,and you have no benfits. The co.s that have bonuses yet are unatanable,if you want to drive a better truck you have to buy the truck. I drove ryder trucks already, there no different than a company truck anywhere else. The only way to not drive your vehicle,is to stay out in the truck. Take your time choosing your next co.,and think at least 7 years from now,because job hopping you start at the bottom every time.
