First day of training at SWIFT ( I know, I know but hey, So What Its Free Training). 19 show up 2 dont make it past the physical. Spent the rest of the day doing paper work and filling out forms. Tomorrow we start with classes and logging. Have 5 women and 13 men, ages 24-67 and already two more are talking about dropping out by Friday. Instructors seem nice, but all I want is for them to teach me to drive, if they do that, give me a job for a year to get some OTR experience I will be satisfied.
My roommate, he started last week, gets to go home tonight, he failed the permit written exams 3 times. At least I get a room by myself for at least one night.
I will let everyone know how things are going.

I was surprised that they did not make him a trainer! -
Good god man! Is he able to read? He may need to be discouraged from the big truck.
-
My roomate did leave he says he is moving back to florida to work at cape canaviral to work on rockets.
Feel safer now! -
Not really!

This is why Swift will always have enough bodies to fill their trucks. And will never feel compelled to change the error of their ways. -

Day 4
Spent the first 4 days taking practice tests for the CDL permit test on Monday.
We are down to 16 now, lost another one last night, he could not stay away from his wife for anymore.
Not much actually teaching here, you read the book, take the practice tests in groups with an open book. The instructor will answer specific questions but does not "teach" the material.
I figure we will lose another 2 or 3 after monday, it is amazing how many people just cant figure this stuff. We have one student that still can not add up his log book to equal 24 hours each day.
Range training starts tuesday with backing skills.
I'll give you a head count and let you know how things are going then.
