Hi Curtis, I am also A+ and Net+ certified. I've been browsing this site for 2 weeks now. I even browse it while working my dead end job. Thinking very hard about becoming CDL certified.
Don't be a job jumping baby.

Good Advice...I quit Werner after about 2 months...Trainer 1 no showers cause he was O/O and needed the cash...Trainer 2 from Romania not a clue as to what he was saying??? So I quit and guess what...no jobs for me!!! Did get an Opportunity in a Tanker, pumping Grease Traps at Wal Marts and Sam's clubs...good gig for a while then they had to cut the higher paid driver...me...for someone who could work cheaper and be run to death...I am now in the process of going to TMC cause I just love Flatbedding...just came off of a seasonal gig..pulling detach trailer hauling Silage Chopper...hope TMC is the way for me to go...no matter what I am getting a solid year!!!

With all due respect,
Seek help.
Why would anyone wish to work and be treated as a slave which is what these companies are doing to the hard working drivers in this industry.
How many of you have ever had a cost of living increase in pay that those in management get on an annual basis?
When the supply of slaves gets cut off, then conditions will improve because the slave owners won't have anyone to move the freight from which they steal money off your hard work doing.GuysLady Thanks this. -
I understand that I will be a slave, fine.
This is where I stand as of 10-29-10: I have no job and getting one in Detroit is unlikely. My house was torched on monday. I have a couple things on my mvr from 3yr ago that is killing my abilty to chose a good(?) company to work for. I finally have been told that CRE will hire me if I pass their school. Becouse they will not give anything in writing I worry that I will be told AFTER I sign the paper work for school that I can not be hired and I will be stuck with the school payments. For a job at this point I will gladly be a slave so that I do not lose my house to taxes and can sleep in something other than a cardboard box.
The moral of this story is: do not piss off cops, get a degree, don't piss off cops. -
All due respect, i learned along time ago weather your in construction, sales, customer service, mechanics, computer, medical.......you need to remember 1 thing....this is a very simple thing.....you will start at the bottom, make crap money! YOU WILL NEED TO EARN YOUR STRIPES AND PAY YOUR DUES to get to each level!! how you choose to play the game is up to you??? beyatching and pissing and moaning will keep you on the bottom, but a good attitude, and get it done attitude (as long as its leagle
) and takeing the crap loads when asked will pay off in the long run........to some this is like playing a video game to ge to each level........the only differnce is this is real life! so how do you want to play the game is the question you need to ask your self......I wish you all luck with your adventures
JustSonny Thanks this. -
Sorry, but I just cant agree with ya'll, I drive local, started local, still am. I started out driving flatbed hauling lumber, then went to dump trucks hauling limestone, now I'm driving tanks hauling wastewater, waste oils, and sludge. I have a little over a years experience. Everytime I switched jobs I found a new one before I quit, I never lost money in switching jobs, and now I've experienced a few different kinds of freight, and got an idea on what I may want to do for an extended period of time.

Hun, the only reason I even consider it, is because I have 4 companies willing to hire me RIGHT now, that are all great companies. I know the owners personally, and know their drivers... and the drivers are exceedingly happy with who they work with...

Allow me to interject....
Possibly, the biggest issue to overcome as a NOOB, is learning a way to get IT done. Legal and safe. But you gotta stop talking yourself into believing that the latest snit-sandwich speedbump in your day is a good enough reason to not complete your task. It isnt personal. The world isnt against you. Contemplate all the things that can stop you from delivering your load. I mean stop you. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Now, if it isnt on THAT list, then you should deliver.
