Has anyone been over the new by-pass road next to the dam? If so how are the grades coming and going? I don't know where they cut off from so I don't know what grades have been eliminated. I used to cross the dam all the time with a load that went to Kingman before they closed it to trucks and I can tell you going down the sharp turns into the dam from the NV side was no picnic with 80,000lbs. I was lucky to be driving a truck and trailer because a semi can not stay in the lane on the last turn before the dam. Then you have all the RV's along with all the tourist that just have to walk in the road to see everything. However, I didn't mind so much in the summer time.

All I can say is I'm glad it's finally open. Before 9/11 I went over the dam every week going from Phoenix to Vegas.

Well, I can tell you from the Nv. side, the new road starts just past the Hacienda Hotel. And it is wide and nice. From the Az. side it starts before the prior curves and may have an ascend, but no curves to worry about. I haven't been on it yet, but was driving to Vegas quite a bit and was monitoring the progress, having just driven it the first of October, '10.

That's sounds great. It seems like it would cut some time off now going to Kingman.

Yeah, it will cut off maybe 20 minutes, I would guess. The check points are gone, but, I'm sure even though the new bridge is 4 lane and highway speeds, the tourists will be going pretty slow to get their pics etc. Apparently, there's a K-rail high enough to block any view from passing 4 wheelers.

I just hope that tourists aren't allowed to stop and take pictures on the new bridge, I about squashed more than a few back when we were allowed to go over the dam.

Haven't been over it but the picts look pretty impressive. Should cut out a lot of time and miles though.

Whats the deal (purpose) of the new by-pass? I hardly ever get to go that way these days? I miss the days when you actually got to go over the dam. Can you at least see it with the new bypass? No more bull head city?
