no--its supposed to be there--it vents the crankcase--and yes it might drip a bit of oil--what you need to watch for is a lot of smoke--oilmist pressure coming out--that will mean you have excessive blowby--and engine might be needing a rebuild

Hm, ok thanks. It hangs quite low to the ground so I wasn't sure. I thought it was smoking a bit yesterday morning but haven't noticed anything after that or today, so idk. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks.

One of the u-joints had a bit of play in it, so we replaced the straps and it seems to have fixed it. The fan belts are getting replaced today as they are loose and can't be tightened anymore. Haven't got around to painting the frame yet, been busy with these minor fixes. Should be getting plated today and hopefully running loads by tonight or tomorrow.

    finally doing work

things are going ok so far. found out the hard way that my truck was only pulling fuel from one tank, someone had the valve shut off for whatever reason.. starter chooses when it wants to work so a new one of those is going in next week.

my real problem is this, though. the old fan belts are loose and can't be tightened anymore, but the truck runs fine with them. if I put on new belts, however, they flip inside out within hours of being installed. I took it to a dealership while in cincinnati and they thought it was a problem with the way the tensioner was set, but after setting it right it happened again in a few hours. the shop where I work thinks it might be the fan hub assembly because all of the other belts are fine except these. that piece is about 750 so I'm really hoping that isn't it. the dealership by my house wants to take a look at it too since it's such an expensive piece. anything else I can check for? the front belt of the 2 always flips first and they appear to bend toward the front. shop manager thinks the shaft for the fan hub is bent. any ideas?

Still not sure what is wrong with the belts. Not wanting to replace the fan assembly right now, so using the old belts until I do, which is working fine. Replaced the starter and the driver side steer brake chamber this week. It had a hole rusted in it, not sure how I missed it, but noticed it when I was under the truck so I got that fixed pronto.

Someone had mentioned in another thread using blue magic with some steel wool for polishing, so I tried that out Friday and had pretty good results.

Still need to hit the passenger side everything and all the wheels, but off to a good start.

Now it's time to start hunting down leaks and getting those repaired...

Been a while since I've updated. Too cold for me to want to do much to this truck other than what is necessary. F winter.

Anyways, I was buying some replacement filters yesterday, and I'm not sure what this little red one next to my oil filter is. The parts guy didn't know, either. I'm sure someone here knows what it is.

Also, you can see that whatever they are screwed into is leaking. Hope that's not too difficult to remedy.

on the n14 that should be the water filter, the shiney looking bolthead above it is what turns the coolant flow off so you can change without loosing too much coolant, just make sure to turn it back on after you change it! I'm a little fuzzy on what it takes to fix the leak on the back side there, good luck to you.

How often should the water filter be changed? I'll have to head back to the dealership and get one...

I'll check the leak when it warms up. It's not too bad now so should be fine until then. Thanks for the reply.

May just be some old gasket stuck to the mating surface of the filter head. When you pull the filter to change it clean the filter head and check it for cracks. I haven't heard of many of them cracking very often unless abused.
