Lets say you get a load from dispatch and according to the Q-comm it is a 630 mile trip. While enroute you have to make some detours for one reason or another. Do you get paid for the actual miles you put on the truck? Or get paid the miles based on the route from dispatch? SO I go from point A to point B and the actual miles on the odometer is 680 lets say.

Most likely as with most companies you get the dispatched miles or HH ( household movers ) miles. There are some companies that pay practical miles but I doubt they will pay you if you go off route....unless maybe they pre-approve it for a specific reason which takes you hundreds of miles off-route, but I doubt it. And there is also hub miles and that might be the same thing as practical I'm not sure on that because I never experienced it. hub miles are actual true miles that you run according to your hubmeter or odometer

Most companies will only pay you 630 miles regardless of the detour.

Where I work at, if a load is paying me so much a mile, I only get the dispatched miles. I know company drivers are the same. I would assume it's that way everywhere. It's not their fault if you get lost and put 50 extra miles on the truck.

I will say though that the miles are always lower than what the actual miles are. Like from St Joe, MO to Dallas, the qc had the miles at 522 or something like that. Actually, it came out to 585. I didn't see how they would route it as I was planning on going the easiest way for me.

Yeah, driver, you get paid what the load pays, that's it and that's all. It's pretty rare to find one that pays true hub miles. :( Carriers usually use either HHG or Practical (Milemaker) miles. Hopefully you're on Milemaker or anything besides that lousyass HHG. It's very tough to match HHG miles. It's all supposidely main post office to main post office, but I think HHG must be based on running gravel or any other backroad to get from Point A to B. It's in your best interest to plan your route ahead so you're not driving a bunch of miles for free.

Yeah...I get a percentage of the load. It paid 3.01 per mile. Then 70% goes to truck and of that 70, I get 29%....which broke down to 61 cents a mile, if I have it figured right.

Some loads for us pay by the ton, which usually suck. Or they are flat rate or by miles. I get 29% of what the truck grosses, minus fuel surcharge, of course. As long as I'm not bouncing a long ways, it works out good. The last few loads though I've bounced a lot of miles. That is kinda a killer.
