    All is not lost, yet. For the sugar, don't eat anything white. Bread, pasta, potatoes,sugar. Next, get away from diet drinks, drink PLENTY of water. Tea and coffee in moderation. The creamer is almost as bad as sugar. Carbohydrates turn to sugar in your body. Then exercise, exercise, exercise. This has helped an uncle, a sister, and a brother. I folloed their example and when my A1C was checked the doctor was surprised that my numbers were as low as they were because of family history. Cinnamon is rumored to help and iles it should not cause any harm. Good luck a and keep the faith. God is the greatest healer.

    CC, you hang in there, man, and if you need projects, well, I got a heck of a list. :biggrin_25525:

    You would make one heck of a great dispatcher, and you know that people would be lining up to have you manage their loads. Heck, who knows, you might even like it.

    You shouldn't be charged with anything if the truck was still in your care and you gave them the keys when they came to pick it up! Abandoned means you left the truck unattended,usually unlocked,keys in it,and didn't tell them where you left it.

    I do believe that you can overcome those problems, with the help of a good doctor.

    Okay I am going to tag on your post celticwolf

    yes checking your BG 2 hours after a meal is a good thing-it should be 150 less at that point but you should also be checking a fasting -prior to eating. If your Md has not specifically given you times to check Condo=check them at different times for example one day fasting in the AM, another time 2 hours after eating say lunch, before dinner or bedtime. This will give you an idea of what your blood glucose is doing through out the day in response to your food intake and how you are metabolizing. HgA1C should really be checked every 3 months not 6 months as that is what the test is: basically a 3 month ''average'' of how your diabetes status is. Again check with you Md and ASK FOR YOUR TEST RESULTS AND KNOW YOUR NUMBERS!! Most patients don't ask thinking things are ''okay'' but alot of MDs still go by older, more higher standards so ask for copies of lab work and ask for explanations!!

    As to dinner- yeah sorry I was thing the same thing great until the Corn- way too much carbs/starch! Same with peas too! As I said before -start to read labels on food containers and look for carb grams.
    You may want to ask how much but generally 60 carb gms per meal/30 for a snack at bedtime for a basic diet but since you weight 260lb you may be able to go higher. I again would recommend a nutritionist or dietitian or even CDE certified diabetic educator. Also check with your insurance company (assuming you have health insurance) and ask if they have nurse case managers or CDE-they may be able to assist you with education and generally this is all done over the telephone

    I don't disagree with you except for one point. 150 is too high. Diabetics should range between 90-110. Numbers have changed drastically in the last few years and anything over 125 if sustained is considered a problem.

    As for the testing before meals -- baby steps..

    for fasting 70-110 is now considered normal 111-124 pre diabetic and over 125 diabetic. PP or post prandial or 2 hours after eating: <150 considered normal. That is why I suggested to Condo to check at many different times thru out the day as most diabetics have decent AM fastings but then spike in the PM or evening. Checking at different times gives a more accurate picture of how you, diet and medications are reacting over a day's time.

    Thank you very much for the helpful information. :)

    The when to prick and what to eat is subjects that are hard to self educate. The ADA website is not direct and to the point. My doctor did offer me a diabetes class but of course on the road you can't attend. Now that I have the time I'll probably go to it. I'm gonna do what's right or die trying, lol!
