I have been hauling fuel for 4 months now. I like the work, wish they pay was a little more consistent, but the company itself is great to work for. One bit of advice, if you are planning on working nights, make sure you get carded at as many racks as possible before you go to nights. I have yet to here of a rack that can get you carded at night. The more places you can get carded at an load, the better your chances are at staying busy all night an making a full paycheck.

Depends where you are located in Utah?
-
That's a great idea but what amazes me my company has beed doing this since the 60's. Now when you print the BOL out right at the rack the map shows how to get into and out of the station. Most of them have two ways but there are some that you can only go one way.
I THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT ALL OF US CAN DO IS NOT COMPLICACY SET IN. -
Utah County
-
Sorry I do not know the counties. North, south, or by what city? It matters because there's a line drawn to where the trucks go to load. Either Las Vegas, NV or SLC.

No kidding????!!!?? Well I am in Iowa and we're kinda behind the times
Then again, I haven't pulled a tank since the late 90's so maybe that's being done now. Even then my carrier was behind the times, everything was paper, we had notebooks upon notebooks of charts.
Dead on with the complacency... or however you spell it... it'll keep you from dumping in the wrong tank for sure. Worst mistake I ever made (I am so ashamed to admit it, but I did it) was dump nolead plus into a premium tank AT THE WRONG STATION. If that isn't bad enough, I got my fitting completely and totally ### stuck. (In my defense, the company was trying out some new ones and they *sucked* and they abandoned them shortly after, but still...) Amazingly they didn't fire my ### for that one and the poor driver on the next shift had to go pry that pos off somehow and pump the tank out.
All these years later, I still feel bad about that one.

I think we've all done it. For me it was years ago. I just started with a great company and after 2 months on the job I dropped 4300 gallons of leaded regular in the unleaded super tank. I swear that tag was red. ( we were backwards- regular was red tagged and super was blue tagged). My boss told me it really humbles you doesn't it and all I could say was that was the nice way of putting it. You sure want to kick yourself and you'll give anything for that time back LOL. You're right you never forget it. However, I was at a big wig safety meeting once and the company figures that every drivers is going to contaim once in a 5 year period. I didn't get fired but I was placed on probation for a longer period. I ended up doing 8 months on probation.
The wrong station?? That's funny but it does happen. We had another company pull into one of our stations get out and set-up to drop 6000 gallons of super. The manager came out and asked what was he doing and the driver got an attitude right off the bat. He told the manager if he had a problem to go call his boss. The manager said ok and left. When we got the call of course we called down to our big shots and they directed us to do whatever we wanted to do but legally once the product leaves their tank and goes into ours it's our product. We must test it so it meets the same spec's and if it does then we can keep it. If not then they have to pump it out and they are liable for all lost revenue that we can come up with. And it's alot when you include lost sales and lost product. But lucky for them their product was the same (or I should say close enough to meet the standards) and we just loaded 6000 gallons of our super and gave it to them. And of course his boss (which we knew very well) made him sweat it out for a good period of time. The last time I heard the guy was real nice to store managers. -
I am only 50 miles south of Salt Lake City. Where do they draw the line?
-
How about that sinking feeling when you see that you are hooked up wrong??
BTW, I've found that there at least two ways into almost every station, regardless of what the maps say . . . do you want to double-hose or, maybe, sling the hoses under the trailer and/or drawbar? -
Are you in the springville area then?
