    Howdy all,

This link was one of many helpful links I have found on this site.

    http://www.safersys.org/CompanySnapshot.aspx

Turbo was kind enough to guide me through just 2 of the aspects it covers.

Closed Enforcements and the ISS safety ratings.

I believe these numbers help to determine if "Safety is our # 1 concern" is more then just lip service when looking at prospective employers.

This should be the opening page from the link above.

If you don't have the company's USDOT number. Their name will work fine. It is however a good Idea to know where they are located as there are occasionally many trucking companies with the same name, or first name, and you might have many options to search through.

(Just try a search for Swift...)

If you did a search by name, you will have had to make a choice as to which carrier you were looking at.

It might send you to this "Disclaimer" page if this is the first time you have accessed this site.

Just click on the blue bar at the bottom to get to the next page.

Below should be the next screen you are looking at.

Click on the SafeStat Results option in the upper right.

Now you have the company of your choosing, and a menu of statistics to look at.

Selecting the Safety option in the upper right will get you to this page.

From here you can select the View Detail Data option in the lower right, from the Closed Enforcements column.

Selecting the Overview option from the top left of the screen will get you back to the main page.

From here, select the Click to view ISS-D Recommendation located at the bottom right of the screen.

The Inspection Selection System (ISS-D) is a decision-aid for commercial vehicle roadside driver/vehicle safety inspections, which guides safety inspectors in selecting vehicles for inspection.

This page is fairly self explanatory.

The ISS Inspection Value number is the first one circled at the top of the page. This is updated monthly based on an equation of safety factors and history.

(Find the highlighted Inspection Selection System option in the page for a detailed summary.)

This will give you an idea as to how close you will be looked at during an inspection. (I think)

    Some questions I have:

A Closed Enforcement is something like a conviction of a crime? No courts involved, but this is DOTS way of saying, your caught, now here is you fine.

If your companies ISS score is above 75, am I correct in assuming you and your truck will be under more scrutiny when pulled over?

Thanks for the walkthrough, MN HillyBilly.

I would've been lost trying to figure that out by myself.

There were two companies I was considering. One has an ISS rating of 35:yes2557:; the other's is 71:biggrin_25513:!

    Valuable information!
