I'm actually hoping to get into this with them when I get some experience under my belt. You ever speak to any of the drivers?

Big Freight is a decent company. Have known a few drivers that used to drive for them. All the equipment goes with the truck, so be prepared to untarp your load once you get to a BF yard, and also to tarp your load at a BF yard before leaving. Also, from what I remember, they have fuel bonuses and the like, so most of the time that truck will be shut off when not moving. If I remember right, their trucks are set up to turn off after 5 minutes of idling. Can't remember what the others said the pay was like, though.
-
Equipment is individually assigned to trucks? So if I were to drop and hook at a yard, I'd have to move MY tarps to the new load? Seems like a pointless waste of time for all parties. I guess it makes it easy to keep drivers accountable for missing/damaged equipment though.
I'm aware of the fuel bonus, idling policy/electronics, and pay. Some things aren't so cut and dry though like miles, home time, etc. The idling thing seems very shortsighted... It's a good thing the trucks are only kept around for three years because I wouldn't want to pay to re-sleeve all of the cylinder walls on a truck that's never allowed to warm up.

Trucking is a job and when you give your time to the company you should be compensated for it, just like any other job trucking should be no exception...
The reason trucking is getting a bad rep is the predatory nature of trucking companies whom realize, that the labour protections don't apply to truckers the same way as they apply to general public, and exploit it to their advantage...
I think that is unacceptable and for most part drivers are waking up...
The new drivers are not willing to put up with the same kind of abuse as the ones who have been around a while and already accepted that "this is the way it is"
Besides getting paid by mile might not have been such problem 20 years ago.....the congestion and traffic jams have doubled since then and the "getting paid by the mile" buisness model needs to be changed...
Truckers deserve the same labour protection as the general public in non-trucking jobs....
And if you don't think so, give me a good detailed reason why you think they shouldn'toshawasue, sum42guy2k and canuck in da truck Thank this. -
maybe an hourley pay plus mileage would work---any time you are using up your 14 hrs of the day it is actually time that you should be making money--if you dont want to pay the driver for fueling ,pretrip--or drops---fine get somebody else to do that work---and anybody who thinks 10 $ is enough --might as well go to mcdonalds --cause they pay 12 an hour---
this, its part of the job crap has to quit--no other industry are you expected to donate your time because"its part of the job" -
Who knows. Maybe Challenger will be Teamster Certified and if they are, that could be a trend to certify many others.
It's been a while so maybe some news will come out shortly. -
Do not work for this guy, they will rip you off, shortpay you, want you to do alot of work for free..the owners are very cheap ( they from Fiji island..so)they dont have a place to park the cheap truck so had to park on the side of the road, they dont pay for wait time, , no insurance, no wcb, no benefit, nothing, that 's why they allways hiring new driver every month, watch out for this guy
-
I'm in no way arguing your point about this company or the owners, but...
The most generous person I know is from Fiji. Please refrain from ridiculous prejudices.
There is a section of the forum that is dedicated to warning others of companies you believe to be bad and is checked by anyone here researching a potential employer. You can find it here:
