Shops say lots of things that aint so (as do O/O). I dont do anything to balance my tires except centramatics and its as smooth as glass! Thats with new tires I had run some recaps and it was not as smooth. I dont think they have enough balance beads in them to balance 2 caps. -
Shops sell a balancing service. How much do they charge to balance your tires? How often do they balance them? To keep a proper balance, you need to keep re-balancing them everytime you remove tread. Everytime that truck is moving, tread is being removed. Then ofcourse that one balancing weight that keeps disappearing!!!
Since I started this thread... I have went from just the normal balancing. To having centramatics on the steers. And now I have centamatics on the drives & the trailer axles.
I can't get a smoother ride out of conventional balancing!

Hey, where and how much did it cost to have them on your steers?
-
I have them on my steers. Michelin XZA3's that ran to 190,000. I keep every mile of maintenace logged and I was surpised. It still have 6/32 and I swapped them to my trailer. I will get them capped and have for backup.
I also have gotten my alignment done at TAFA in Nashville, TN. Top of the line shop. (they checked everything that had to do with suspension related components and replaced my tire rods as well)
Shocks are also new with new tires.
Brake drums were also replaced during inital new tires. 2 years ago.
Tire and rim get mounted with centering pins.
I know.. I'm very picky.

I have centramatics. so far the steers are wearing great. totally even wear. no bouncing. some loves locations sell the balancers. I think they are 169.00 .installed.
-
I don't have my tires balanced, I just run the Centramatics and you couldn't ask for more consistantly smooth ride or better tire life.
In order to keep your tires balanced with conventional balancing you have to have them rebalanced from time to time as the tire wears.
Another thing to consider is that the Centramatics will also compensate for imbalances in the brake drums, hubs and anything you pick up when you're running such as mud that gets into your wheels and such.
HUH? -
don't ever put centramatic this is bs.
