You must be hauling tar for asphalt? I thought asphalt was seasonal? It has to be 45 degrees minimum to pave.

You've got the idea to check him out. Why not companies check us all the time. I believe the best way you're going to find out how he drives is to talk with other drivers doing the same thing. You've all got to load at the batch plant so try to ask a few drivers if they know him and how does he drive. Believe me if it's anything like what I did we all knew every driver and what has happened to them.
Besides all that is there other hot mix trailers taking the same route and if so there might be something to it. But if he's the only one going that way then there's a good reason and 9 times out of 10 it's not good. Find out why he goes that way. Don't take an answer because it's shorter, try to find the real reason like maybe his truck would never pass an inspection. You've got some homework to do before you make any changes. Good luck.Aaragorn Thanks this. -
sounds like his arrangement with the company he's running for is to keep him around doing local runs until the 19th and not do the Montana thing. Man all that good stress for nothing, lol. after that he's saying he's got flatbed work enough to keep me busy.
I told him that should work out ok and that I'm happy to go out with him if he's hauling anything after 5 when I get off my day job....or on days when they call me and say they don't have work that day. That gives me a little more time and makes the transition more of a process than an event. Perhaps that better anyway.
If I may shift gears on this thread a little I think this is still relevant to the thread title.
I don't like the passenger side mirror set up.
In my personal vehicle I have a mirror on the passenger side that is more rectangular but it's wider than taller. These truck mirrors are very tall but only 6.5 inches wide. I have looked online at what is out there to make the passenger side rear and side view better and honestly I am less than impressed with what I found on google.
I see these things with smaller rectangular fisheye lenses set in the bottom but what I want is a second mirror pretty much of equal size that isn't distorted at all that I can aim farther wide field.
so i would have the fisheye on the mirror that is already there and that's fine but I want a second full size mirror aimed wider out. I say this because I want to see the tail of the truck when I corner WITHOUT having to lean forward. If I am having to lean to a different place inside the cab to see what and where I want to see in one mirror then I simultaneously lose the line of sight I want to keep in the other side. I just like to see everything on both sides as much as possible and want to not have to move my head from the "sweet spot" to do it. I can move my eyes much faster than I can lean forward. I like to have all my mirrors set so that I don't really have to move my head at all to see anywhere I want to see. The single 6.5 wide mirror doesn't cover any rear width and depending on the fisheye gives a distorted depth perception that's why I want the second true view mirror aimed wider out.
I can't be the only one to think of this can I? Does anyone know if a manufacturer makes a split double wide mirror for a truck? -
I hate to tell you this but you time at your other job counts as on duty. See FMCSR's §395.2 Definitions- On Duty Time- (9). Performing any compensated work for a person who is not a motor carrier. You have to watch that you do not go over. Protect your CDL. -

Try power mirrors, we use em on our tankers. Handy for maneuvering around real tight and wierd corners and right-hand backups. Real neat when the chem plants are doing construction like now. Dang construction workers will leave materials and machinery parked in the damndest places.

Try checking out an RV store. They have all kinds of gadgets and such to put on your truck. I am sure they have mirror extenders or something like it. I bought a really cool set of collapsible stairs that went from the ground all the way up to the door. I used them for my great dane so that she could get in and out of the truck. When you folded them up they fit perfectly in my side box. Any way, you can find all sorts of cool stuff for your truck at an RV store.

We couldn't live without them. Even heated mirrors are great because even if it's only raining you can turn them on and see a whole lot better.
