The best bet may be to look for a small company that does local delivery, maybe construction supplies, food service or something similar.
Most trucking companies insurance will not let them hire under 21.Some require you to be 23...
Just keep looking and good luck to you..

Do something like a coke route. Stay away from the Pawtucket bridge. Very costly!

As far as I know, most trucking companies require that you be 23 yrs. old. There may be a few small companies out there that would hire at your age.One company for sure is where I was driving at at 19 yrs. old,and that is the US ARmy.Back then in 1955 and 1956 the pay was not all that great. But anyway thats where I started.

you are stuck with what RI has to offer, and that ain't too much...you can try something like Waste Management for class B jobs, but frankly, can't Bonnie the placement person help you....?? she ought to, that's HER JOB...!!

spoken like a guy that's been thru here and there...???

$85 dollar for the trucker, disobeying the signs.

UP TO $3,000 for the trucking company, for being over weight, even when empty, number of axles, etc. an easy "go around" to take too, and so many screw up.....i hardly feel sorry for them.......in fact, i DON'T feel sorry for them.....

thanks to the dumb truckers NOT OBEYING the signs.....?? nearly $9 million dollars collected so far.......!!!

Think small. Small company, small truck. You can drive interstate in a straight truck under 26,000 pounds gross weight. That's how I got started at 19. Worked for a courier service with 3 straight trucks running NJ, NY, CT, MA.

It might not be tractor-trailer work, but it will still help you get a job driving a big rig when you turn 21. Besides, its much easier to learn New England cities in 12'6 tall straight truck than a tractor trailer.

he's still going to have a tough time, due to his age and lack of experience. the placement person should help him. RI IS a small state, there just aren't that many companies that will take him as many times deliveries or pick ups are made just over the line into Mass or CT.......

not even the mail carrier contractor would be able to use him. if he gets really lucky, he can try a moving company and be a lumper/part time driver there. this is the problem with THAT SCHOOL......taking under aged students...they tell them, "sure no problem, just sign here so we can get the student loan money, we can worry about you getting a job (or not) later".........
