I have briefly looked through this forum and can see how upset drivers have become with their working environments. If drivers want to improve upon issues such as pay and working conditions they should consider lobbying the government for trade status. With a standardised and national organisation to oversee "trucking" as a recognised trade we can begin to alleviate the issues posted here on this board.

Every branch of law enforcement that a driver deals with is unionised and collects a pension when they retire. Drivers deserve the same.

Companies will pay into a centralised pension fund and all products shipped will carry a tax that will go toward the fund. The problem we face now is that pretty much anyone can start a trucking company and cut the rates to obtain freight. A trade union would prevent many of these bottom feeders from even starting up,costs would be prohibitive. If a driver costs $26 per hour(plus benifits and pension) instead of 12-20,many companies couldn't even get into the driver market. It's time for drivers to move in this direction otherwise we will continue to see our quality of life eroded even further.

We need to make driving a recognised trade. We deserve it and so do our families.

    You mean a union? NO.

I want to work for who I want to work for and when I don't I won't.

Trade unions are good sometimes but at other times bad. I would rather take my chances without one.

OK. Remove the word "union" from the equation.
Trade status for drivers would set the bar of what a driver costs, regardlss of where that driver chooses to work. If BLM wants a driver, they will pay a minimum wage of say $26/hr + benefits and pension and if Challenger wants a driver they will pay the same amount of money. You still get to work where you want.

Driving needs to become a TRADE. Right now driving is classified as unskilled labour.

Guys who put up drywall for a living make $26 per hour plus.....no driver makes that. Putting up drywall is recognised as a skilled trade by the government.

Worried about Government involvement? They already control everything you do in a truck and you have no say in it. They decided that trucking companis don't need to pay drivers overtime, that's why truck drivers are all chasing that 60+ hour work week. If you like working 60+ hrs a week that's fine.......I just think you should get overtime and make a comfortable living while doing it
