I don't mind these places as long as I don't have to do it too often.
I used to try and avoid them, but found that I often have very little time at the end of the day to find parking after I deliver my last stop, and realized it wasn't worth it to go over my 14.
What I realized is that most of these places wave the parking fee if you spend $25, or less, in their stores or if you buy fuel. I fuel at our terminals, so that's not an option, but find it's not hard to spend the money required to park for free.
I'll eat a meal and buy a cup of coffee in the morning, which I would have done regardless of if I needed to or not, although I will sometimes treat myself and get a little better meal than I would have otherwise. There are also those little things that you sometimes get from a truckstop that I will wait to buy until I am at a pay to park facility. If I add a sandwich, a Snickers, and a bag of chips to stick in the cooler, I am easily over my requirement.
It'll add up fast if you do it every night, but doing it once in a while isn't even noticeable.
Would you do business at a truck stop that charged for parking ?

Think right about now the FlyingJ is wishing they would have charged for parking.

if the truckstop and parking area are clean and well maintained I would gladly pay for good safe secure parking, free with fuel etc... im always willing to work with everyone to make things better.. if i have to pay for parking its better than getting a citation for parking on a ramp etc...

It's the old saying. You get what you pay for. I recall 30 years ago when the TS in Cheyenne had a security guard packing a pistol who would drive around in an electric golf cart and patrol the lot all night.
One night he had a Billy Big Rigger pulling a reefer arrested that was stealing fuel from the truck parked next to his by means of a 12 volt fuel pump. -
How soon before you charge for the toilet paper in the restrooms? Haha

Isn't in Laredo,TX where the TA charges $10 to park and ya get it back if one spends $10 in the store buying anything? It's been a couple years since I've been there.
I used to listen to the driver's across the street at the "J" preach how they would never spend $10 to park anywhere which was PACKED with Big Rigs..and watch many if not all walk to the J store where I'm sure they spent $10.
Course I was at the relatively mellow TA havin a good time. -
I spend enough there that the parking fee is waived. non-issue.
