I-10 "The Thing", I-40 Meteor Crater, I-4 Disney World, There is a shipper that mines potash and they are located right in the middle of Arches National Park. I thought I was being "played" when I was told to go there for a pick up!
Thought this would be an interesting thread for the newbies! Keep em' comin!

The Thing is awesome. My husband felt so let down, but we loved the excitement. Kind of like getting to South of the Border.

The Thing use to be one of my regular stopping points when I ran produce.
I remember South of the Border when I was a kid going to FL from PA. I was more excited going there than FL
I loved the billboards as a kid.
Back then it was just one big building. Now it's a massive resort. There use to be a small pink restaurant in downtown Dillon. I drove the truck through there last time I was in the area. I didn't find it though. It had great food. -

What a coincidence! That is the exact same experience that we both had! South of the Border is cool though. I remember always going there as a kid too! It's #### near a theme park now!
How about the Garlic Ice Cream Stand on the way to Stockton? I know just about all of you have passed by this little place!
Also on I-70 heading west going down the mountains there is a truck stop called Gay Johnsons. Well across the street is a little state park and it is one of our fun little stops to go fishing and take the dog swimming. Water is a little too cold for us to swim. You can have a nice barbeque with what you catch! You have to park across the street though at Johnsons and walk over there.
Another fun spot is at the top of Donners Pass on I-80 there is a rest stop after the scales. At the rest stop you can hike part of the Sierra Nevada trail. It is incredible. I take the dog with me and I have literally gotten sidetracked to the tune of 4 hours. My wife thought I got lost of murdered!
While on topic of Donners Pass my wife asked me to include her most favorite casino in the country "Boomtown"! It's part truck stop, part casino. Whenever Donners is shut down, which is just about everyday in the winter, we would get stuck there and my wife would take her jar of coins and disappear for the whole day. It was cool though because I got the truck to myself and she actually did laundry while playing slots! She loves Vegas and also Palm Springs but for some reason "Boomtown" is her favorite. I like the one on 80 in Nevada at the Battle Mountain truck stop.
My wife also wanted me to include Jubitz Truck Stop in Portland, Or off of I-5. One of the best features of this place is the hotel rooms there. They have huge hot tubs in the middle of the rooms surrounded by mirrors! I have some good video of that trip. (can't post on here though!) :smt008

South of the Border is a great trip to take. Last time we were there though it was closed for the season (we missed it by a week).
Does anyone know where the big peanut is in Georgia? We found it once and when we went back we couldn't find it again. Maybe we just missed it.
I'm pretty excited to get out there and see the whole country (even if it is just driving through). I've been through the eastern US and some of the western area of the US.
I'm getting nervous now, but I'm sure as next Sunday gets closer it will be more curiosity and excitement then nervous. -
Sadly, Boomtown's no longer a truck stop. Too bad, the buffet was pretty good. They kept the casino and where the truck stop was is now a Cabela's.
trucker_101 and chompi Thank this. -
For the skiers and snowboarders, Park City ,Ut Home to 3 world class resorts. One of which has been rated #1, 4 years in a row by the readers of Ski Magazine. Small truck stop at the US 40/ I-80 JCT. Cabs will come out and pick you up and take ya back to the truck. See a former Silver Mining Town strike it rich, as one of the Easiest accessible ski town in the US.
The Olympic Bobsled Park and Ski Jumps.. Yes they teach you how to jump , as well as you can ride with members of the US Bobsled team in a 4 person sled on the track used during the 2002 Winter Olympics
Boomtown, tore out the truck stop and a over priced box sporting good store moved in.
Park at the TA in Sparks, walk next door to the Western Village Casino/ Hotal, and ask to get a shuttle to any of the other casinos in Sparks/ Reno.
Lake Tahoe near by, but not all that truck accessable nor not really any truck parking there. Best bet rent a car.
The Donner Lake Rest Areas west and east bound , CLOSED for a year while both are torn down and rebuilt.Last edited: Nov 14, 2010

Giant Peanut is in Ashburn, Ga. If that's the one you are talking about. I think there are a few different ones. This one is off of I-75.
Starmushrooms Thanks this.
