If you're the trainer, first thing you should do is start taking video of whatever this guy was doing. Use your cell phone or whatever. Then if he is going slow enough to pull the air brakes, go for it, which he obviously was if it was slow enough to jump.
That is my guess for why he didn't pull the air brake or try to stop it some other way. It would be the trainer's word against the student if anything happened. And once the lawyers got involved, no telling who would be blamed.
Since the student continued on and had to be stopped with spike strips, obviously he was the crazy one.
Or, probably most likely, something is missing from the story as is usually the case. Interesting that they didn't release details about the charges. Maybe he turned into a werewolf and the trainer's first reaction was just to jump out.

The first thing I noticed when reading the article was his behavior. He was talking to himself and laughing; nothing wrong with that. But acting delirious is another story depending on the disorder the guy in question has.
Now who is crazy enough to nearly risk their life and jump??? The trainer could have called police and give the precise location of the truck as they pass each mile marker, called england, send in a message advising england of the situation or even ask him to pull over and then release the glad hands. Is it me or does anyone else think information is missing from the article???
