(SCATTIED67) your allowed more then 12,000 lbs on your steer tire, just not over gross, i think 12,500 lbs now it depends on how wide the tire is on your steer, i just can't remember, send a message or call safety dept, i think thats the dept and ask how much weight you can have on the steers that they have on these (throw away trucks) ha ha ha, i made a funny, i never would have thought of using a strap to hold the lever for the tandens, a trailer i pick up one time was very old and that V crove was worn out i had to bend that arm to hold it, then when i got home i got my (vise greps) i think i spelled that wrong, any way use the vise greps on that lever and its works great when you have to pull that lever 2 more inchs so those dam pins stay out of those holes, also you will need one of those 5 lb or 2 lb sledge hammer its the one with a short handle 12 inch, use that to pound those pins in if need be, and yes one more item you need, 2 bungie cords for the trailer doors that will have a missing hook or they won't stay close enough to the sides of the trailer to get into the 50 year old dock that has steel i beams on eash side that will scrap the sides of the trailer door and yes rip that door off, been there and done that, so heres the recap, (1 vise grep) 1 5lb sledge hammer and 2 bungie cords, not the cheap ones buy the good ones, now i can't remember but a small flat tip screw driver for poking those dam pins in that trailer pig tail, you know trailer lights blink when you move the pig tail around, the pins need bent a little for a better connection, now don't tell anyone about these things i mention to ya, you have to have more then 5 years of experience to now this stuff and don't let anyone read this tread, ha ha ha, i think i made another funny
Interesting phone call the other day....

I went out and bought some chain. Not the 'swing set' chain, and not your Queen Mary anchor chain, but some good chain. I also bought med. size bolt cutters and some el-cheap-o caribeaners. If i ever find a trl with missing door ties, i pull out a couple i've already made, ready to go. Granted, i take them back when i drop the trailer......if i remember. i also have a couple bottles of liquid wrench and WD-40. But those Vice Grips work wonders. I give it a couple good tries, and if it dont come out...i pull out my 5 lb sledge and wack away at the pins.
oh, also....dont care if you are a lease op....co driver....whoever....invest in a GOOD quality 50' emergency airline to air low trailer (or tractor) tires. Will save you HOURS out of your day everytime you use them. And get the rubber ones, not the plastic ones, cause the plastic just wont cooperate in the freezing cold. Also, the air-chuck....make sure its straight ended not angled on both sides...cause it'll be a pain in the AZ sometimes to get to the inner tire valve......just sayin'. -
