I've been trucking for two years with a day cab which means my nights have been spent in a nice comfortable motel. I prepare my own meals while on the road; open a can a soup, dump it in the pot and warm it on the hot plate. Clean up is easy in the motel sink. Well, the end of this year I'll be living in a truck with a sleeper. Cooking will be no problem, but I'm not sure what will be the best way to clean up after preparing the meal. Like camping; washing dishes in the truck and dumping the water out the door? Whats proper etiquette for clean up at a truck stop? Can't say I've ever seen anyone doing dishes in the washroom sinks at the flying J.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Sincerely,
Sprinks

I use paper plates, plastic forks etc. Yeah yeah I know: landfills and all that BUT the green police aren't living in a closet on wheels.
I also use clorox wipes and to get rid of water I keep empty plastic jugs such as milk, windshield washer fluid, etc. I have a large funnel and just pour it in and it goes in to be dumped or else I dump it in the grass.
As for your cooking pots etc: I line my cookers with aluminum foil, use foil pans or crockpot liners. -
I cook in a crock pot use crockpot bags I carry a bottle of dish soap and do dishes in the bathroom sink at the truck stop

If you can....
Prepare all the meals ahead of time.....
I usually plan out for 8 days......That's about all the fresh food that will fit in the refer and the tiny freezer in a Pete....
Paper plates....Plastic utensils....Aluminum foil to line the George Foreman grill and drip pan.......Rollover the Original and Tazz Thank this. -
I use paper plates, crook pot liners and baby wipes to sanitize, not the scented ones.

Yes, paper plates, plastic utensils, and use wipes and paper towels to wipe off and conserve when possible.
But keeping the truck clean, in general, is a constant effort. I have a dust buster (powerful) and use air hose for blowing out dust and junk. The dust buster has come in very handy on a number of occasions, spilling coffee grounds, etc. Of course you need a good inverter to keep a good dust buster or dirt devil charged well. -
Keeping a little water on hand shouldn't be a problem, so I'll just bring along my plastic plate and bowl. A wipe with a paper towel, a quick rinse, then either air dry or wipe it with another paper towel. Same with metal utensils.
Unless I am sick there should be no problem. If I am sick I'll use some dish soap.
After all, I am the only one using these things. Passing everyday germs from me to me makes no difference.
The most water it would take would fit into the small bowl, which is no problem to dump anywhere.
Using paper plates and plastic utensils is a total waste of money. I'd rather use a few paper towels than constantly spend the money on picnic supplies.cheflee Thanks this. -
I hope ya clean that sink out good. There's probably germs in some of those sinks that would scare the #### out of penicillin!

I do the plastic, paper, styrofoam thing too. Anytime I cook, I'll stick the dishes in a bag and Pilot's have a stainless steel sink by the coffee machines. I'll use that instead of the bathroom sink.

Great feedback drivers. Seems simple enough, pretty much do the rinse and wipe right now. Just didn't know how it would work in the truck.
This a fantastic forum and the you all are appreciated by the many who have questions. The feedback for the most part is always positive and criticism is constructive as well.
Happy Thanksgiving and God bless you all!
