Agree, lumber is cheap. And that's my experience also, loose or broken bands. Just another reason I don't touch lumber anymore.

Your in a straight truck making locals. You can butt your load up against the cab if you wanted. There is a big difference pulling a trailer running mountains than tossing a couple straps and driving a couple miles to kick off. I gave the man info that would keep him and others alive. You gave him enough info to make him dangerous. I been doing this a long time. I am pretty sure I know what I am talking about.

well i had a headboard like a tractor trailer does. i had a dump bed. i'm not arguing theres differences between hauling local loads and doing OTR flatbed stuff, but you either strap your loads up safe or you dont. i'm just speaking from my personal experiences, i never had a load come undone or anything unsafe happen.

exactly! And there is a different between running 50 miles to unload & running 1000 miles across Oklahoma highways to unload!

Straps do work there way loose after several hundred miles

We used to haul multi-stop lumber deliveries. So your load was loaded in the order of your stops, so having an 8' unit under a 20' unit was common. Would have units of 48' I Joists or LVL's or even just a few pieces of each spaced apart so you could stack 10,000 lbs on top of them. You would strap as tight as you could, roll the conestoga shut and just by turning out of the driveway you would feel the load move.:biggrin_25523:

Your truck does not pivot. You can butt up against the headache rack to help secure. In a tractor trailer you can not. The truck pivots to turn. Your kind of trucking has nothing in common with what we are talking about. I always secured my stuff well. Just as when I give info on here on how to do it. I gave the best info for securing. Your the one that came in with the nothing wrong with a dead space comment. If you knew anything about trucking lumber you would have known why I butt all my bundles end to end. Also you would know why I raise the front of the 1st bundle and the rear of the last bundle.

What you do is what I call chance loading. There is a chance it might be there when you make your drop.:biggrin_2556:
