Found out today that the reason I'm going to Marshfield and not Gary is because of the fleet I chose. I'm going with dry van to start and they like to hold places in Gary for the flatbeders. Makes sense.
I just have to figure out where I'm gonna stop for the night on my way to Marshfield now. I can't or rather don't want to, make it there in a one day. I'm thinking I'll stop around the Gary area, anyone know of any cheaply priced, but not cheap as in nasty, hotels in the area? I haven't done my search yet, just wanna see what others have found.

Try couchsurfing dot com. I have stayed with several folks and have hosted several as well. Good site.

That would be a good reason for the confusion I had about it. Thanks -
Don't stay in Gary, it's a dirt hole. Drive into Wisconsin and stay somewhere there. -
Well where do I start? I think its been 2 weeks since I posted. I have not had web access for a stint. I'm in Marshfield now so there is free internet and I'm using that. I've done pretty well I think since switching to the van side of things. Had 2500 miles the one week and this past had around 2850. This week that pays next friday is around 2500 again, but with a trip to Canada and a couple of 2 stoppers. I will say I'm not a fan of going to Canada and this was my first time ever to go further than the Falls since I was in 7th grade the last time I was in Toronto.
I will write about the exciting trip to the Northland... I got the load out of North Carolina after being an idiot and running myself out of hours having to take a 34 hour reset to get going. All this in a little town of St. Pauls NC. Not a great place to reset, but did what I had to. So I get the load and head to the shipper. Load is a 3pm to midnight window. Get there at 3pm on the nose so I didn't waste hours. Load was not ready. This shipper left a lot to be desired... FOR SURE!!!! little foreshadowing there... Finally around 7pm the load is ready. So off I go. Get the paperwork for the border crossing. THe shipper says I only need to fax the BOL. I say ok and hit the road. Drove through DC in the middle of the night and got just south of York PA where I found a truckstop with room. Reefers were opening slots up. Little T/S called Tom's. Nice enough joint. right on 83. A bit small, but room for me to get in there. DC was FUN... Windy and rainy leaves blowing across the road it was a severe thunderstorm if I'd ever seen one... Man some drivers were just rolling with the hammer down! I was a bit nervous here and there. Took my ten at Tom's and hit the road for the rest of the way up to Pembroke NY where I was fueling. Got there parked for the night before parking got short. Planned to fuel in the morning. Got on the phone with dispatch to make sure I had my Canada crossing ready to go. Got off the phone they had me send all the sheets I had. Over 20 to the broker. 30 bucks later... Faxing is overpriced... The shipper tried to tell me that they faxed the other info up. Yeah whatever...
So I hit the sack and plan to get up in the early AM and roll to the border. Got up to the phone ringing at 0430. Its the Broker callin to tell me I had placed the wrong stickers on the paperwork... (really I put PAPS on instead of PARS, even tho the PARS say PARS on them {I'm an idiot sometimes}) Run into the TA and and FAX the papers again... lol $30 because who knows if they can connect the dots.
Get done fuel and roll out. Get to the bridge to Canada no problem. Check with the guards and she says "not in the system yet" SO off to park and in to see the broker. Long and short... 7 hours at the border. The shipper only put prices on the one stop of the load. Nothing for the the small stop. They put a full load for the consignee, but just filled the trailer with the rest. So it took them that long to get information to the broker. (Like I said, this shipper left a lot to be desired) So got to Mississauga and delivered. Guy had me weasel into this dock because it was easier for him to manuever. It took him less time to unload his partial order than it took for me to wiggle my butt in there! I was worked! lol So I parked next to the building cause my hours were up and needed my ten. Got up in the AM and had a preplan for 222 miles MT away from where I delivered the 2nd stop. That was Friday and from there on was perfectly fine. Tho I was late to the Campbell Soup load. I got there picked it up and went down 24 to the petro since it was half empty. Parked for the night and eased my way to Tomah.
Once at Tomah I actually got a load from Wausau to Michigan. Hoping this load is the next step to getting me home. I am due at the house Tuesday morning.
I also found out today from Wise that our FM is being changed. He and I had a guy that is going to be a Flatbed FM and now we are getting the same female out of Gary... Hope she is a good one! Let me know Wise! -
Will do....lol!
At this point I doubt I'll get in there until after Thanksgiving....you might get to swing through there before me. Hell, I haven't even talked to her yet. -
hoping i head home after unloading this one. Hope our FM let our new one know...
hey funny happened to me coming out of wausau today... I was beckoned over the CB by way "HEY ROEHL, Go F### yourself..." To which I replied, "ouch" as a child would do when words hit him... I was so hurt... lol to think that some MORON thought he would hurt my feelings. I became tempted to mess with the guy back,
but let it go. I don't know for sure, but I passed a guy right ahead of me that had a big pouty face like a little child that was mad since no one would let him play with them... He would not even look as I passed.
I think it was him since no one else was even close. Just struck me as funny....
probably made it to get his CDL and was told they didn't hire ugly... lol -
hey hindsy, it amaze's me how other driver's that pass will start talking trash or try
to belittle other people to make them self's feel better. I usally don't respond, as far as I'm concerned there not worth it ! -
heck I almost joined in for the fun... lol
-
I talked to them (Roehl) last week.....I got my CDL about 20 years ago but never used it and Have No EXP. driving.....They told me no problem...just go through our school as a new student and all the training....only thing you won't go home and Get your CDL...just our in house test....very nice guy...Now it's just if this is what I want to do.....will be 50 next spring....tough to change.....LOL
