Ok I am about to get my CDL Clas A in a couple weeks. So far I have talked with Willis Shaw(ATL reginal) .30cpm after training, Swift, Con-way, and Roehl. Looking for solo. Which company would be best I have tried to read up them in the DAC section. But I still have not decided. I would like to get the most miles I can. I live in Atl, GA. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Have you even read any of the hundreds of threads on all those companies you mentioned?

Put all those company names on a dartboard.

    Throw a dart at it.

Whichever company the dart hits, call them.

They are basically all the same, just different colored trucks.

    Ok, I'll bite.

1st: Look at who makes regular deliveries to your hometown or who has a terminal there. It's best to wait at home while your rig's getting fixed up.

2nd: Go to the local truck stop and look at rigs of the company you are considering. Bald tires, battered rigs etc and you might want to look at another company. Anytime you're thinking about a company, check out the rigs.

3rd: Talk to the drivers of your target company. Read up on the diamonds and warts of each company on the board here.

4th: Talk to recruiter. Remember they are like military recruiters; they won't out and out lie, but mislead. If you make an assumption, they don't have to correct it.

5th: DO NOT choose a company based upon shortest training time. That's a game for guys returning to trucking after an absence. Training time is important. Use it to learn to do stuff right.

6th: When deciding which company to work for remember that cent per mile is not always the answer. .28/mile can be better than .32/mile. It all depends on whether they keep you rolling. If the higher company always has you waiting for a dispatch or repair, you aren't earn cash.

    Best of luck,
    Pal

Isn't a FIRT a FART and SQUIRT? If so, what is the difference between that and a SHART?

Look into Watkins Shepard (thats who I work for)

We have a terminal in GA and have allot of freight going through there so you would be able to get home time easily.

Our Trucks and Trailers are older (2004-2010) but well maintained and any issues you find are fixed imediatly without question....

They have a Good safe stat score so we get the Green Light to bypass the scales almost everytime.

    We have EZPass

.25cpm for first 90 days then .27cpm + $20/Stop and more miles then you can ever run.

They allow Inverters and whatever you want in or on the truck, they have APU's on the Newest trucks, They allow pets and riders.......

If you have a good-decent driveing record and a clean criminal record give Roxy in recruiting a call! Our recruiters DONT lie like almost all other companies

Oh ya and we dont have any stupid idleing policys
