    What's wrong with wearing H-D?
    Stereotype?
I wear H-D with pride,it's as American as apple pie.
I wear clean clothes in good condition,I keep in shape and have short hair and a well kept short beard,I shower regular and brush my teeth.
I'm no Hells Angel but I've ridden H-D for decades with pride.

Hubby has been driving a truck for 2 years now. So far he has gained 30 lbs., grown a beard, and comes home stinky and dirty. Those darn stereotypes!

The stereotype might exist but I think it exists mostly in our minds. I think we see one slob and it jades our opinion so badly that the next ten clean truckers can't remove the vision. Being somewhat of a social butterfly, I talk to alot of drivers. Most are presentable. Articulate, not so much, but able to communicate reasonably clearly. Nobody said you needed to be an Engrish major to truck. Face it, there is no standard of behavior or dress for truckers. That's part of the appeal for this industry. I don't take a shower everyday. I do heat up some water in the truck and wash up. I cut my own hair(please note that is singular). I am articulate and don't use racial slurs. Maybe my problem is that I like everyone and try to empathize with their situation. Or maybe I am so wrapped up in my own problems that I just don't have time to judge.

Well, I came to trucking 3 years after I retired from the AF. While I do grow a beard (22 years of shaving daily:biggrin_25513:) I do keep it neat. Daily uniform (self imposed) is a Dickies buttoned shirt, clean serviceable jeans w/belt, work boots and (my favorite) an old battered wide brimed hat. No holes and any stains probably happened in the last hour or so. I just don't see a reason to look like a bum when I'm working, so I try to look like an average working Joe.

Now there were 2 clowns , did they ever finish a load in any of the shows , always side tracking to better the world and help the underdog.

I'm sitting at a Flying J in Missouri.

I've seen a guy wider than his arms long waddle in. A fairly plump smoker just went by.

And this is within 10 minutes.

What do you EXPECT people to think about us?

Verticle stripes are supposed to be 'Slimming'... tell that to the fat dude that just climbed into the KW.
