I found a nice cb on Craigs List I am planing to go look at today. It's a Cobra 29LTD-C (the chrome and black one) and they want 80 bucks for it. It looks real nice but I'm hoping it works even better.
My question is has anyone here ever bought a used cb and if so would you mind sharing your experiences? I really don't want to get ripped off so any input would be nice. Is 80 bucks too much for that cb? I would just go buy one new but as with most, money is tight. Any input would be helpfull! Thanks!

Go to the truck stops they are having sales prior to the holidays approaching.cj8 Thanks this. -
Well I looked on-line and the price I saw for that same model was $149.00 so I thought maybe it was a good deal. I'll call the local cb shop and how much it is there.

$80 is a bit steep even for a nice used one. The Cobra 29 LTD Classic can be found for around $90 at most truck stops.
I don't pay more than $50 for like new Cobra 29s in the box and more like $25 for ones that work good but show minor wear.
While you're at the Pilot and "J"... put out a call on Ch 19 asking if anyone has a used CB for sale. Drivers sell them all the time and good deals can be had in the back lot of truck stops.cj8 Thanks this. -
I got my eye on the Uniden Pc 78 ltw at loves truck stop for $80

If you are into mods then the Cobra takes them better then the unidens. Not sure why since they are dang near identical internally.

If the used radio for sale was operated while the SWR reading was excessive, the radio may have damaged power transistors and they are expensive to replace. The radio will transmit & receive well in the truck stop but may not be able to transmit longer distances.
I would insist that the seller hook up the radio in my truck. AND I get radio checks from drivers that are some distance from the truck stop. If the seller refuses this, DO NOT BUY THE RADIO.
Additionallly, $80 for a used radio without a valid factory warranty sounds unreasonable high to me. Check out different chain truckstops like Pilot and T/A among others. From time to time, they put radios on sale. For example: Pilot usually has a sale on Midland 5001 Z cb radios in March and April. Cobras also come up on sale a couple of times a year. Take your time and shop around. As the other posters stated, you can buy a new radio with a factory warranty for $80 if you shop wisely.cj8 Thanks this. -
