O.K. I got my CDL from a school in my state. It was expensive. Seeing that some of these starter OTR companies offer training to obtain your CDL at a much lower cost, how does one get issued a CDL from the state they reside in? Do you take the road test in the state where the company is? For example, if I went to the Swift school in Arizona, would I take the road test with the Arizona DMV and receive an Arizona CDL? I am from Massachusetts. In Massachusetts, you can only convert an out of state CDL if you have 2 years of driving exp. Like If took the road test tomorrow in Florida and passed, Massachusetts wouldn't even let me convert the license.
Getting a CDL with an OTR company?

i ain't too sure i understand your line of questioning. i mean you say you already HAVE your CDL, why would you NEED to convert it to another state....???? why would you even think you need to switch it over just for more training form an OTR company...?? who fed you that line of crap...???
if you move (change residence) then of course you would have to change over your license and that's pretty darned simple, you go to the DMV stand in line, new pic, new license....DONE
but if you were to go to an OTR company, YOU DO NOT NEED to switch out your license........you HAVE IT......!!!
where did you go...NETTTS.....???? did they say something that confused you...?? that school is KNOWN for that crap.......Last edited: Nov 24, 2010

O.K. Let's say I could go back in time before i even started going to school. What if instead I decided to go to a CRE driving school or Swift driving school. I would take the test in that state, wouldn't I? If so, who issues the CDL? The school in that respective state? Would I be issued an Arizona or Utah license? Like I said, Massachusetts doesn't usually let you convert an out of state CD unless you have 2 yrs. exp.

No, I went to Parker in Avon, MA. -
if you WERE going to get a license from (say) CR ENGLAND, you would have turned in your "car driving license", use an address from where ever CR England sends you, get your CDL there, then GO home, and switch over to your home state..... so right now, you're lucky you already GOT a CDL
only a "tad better" than NUTTTS.......but NOT by much......
