And being a stay-at-home mom is NOT unemployed. I know. I was a stay-at-home dad for over a year and a half. You worked your arse off...

I have been a stay at home father for 3 years with a (now) 4 year old, 3 year old, and a 1 year old.

I stopped working back then because I got pancreatitis and was not allowed to work for 2 years. Then after having surgery to correct it, I couldnt find a job in this economy...and now I am finding that companies aren't okay with it because I am a male and not a female that has been at home. Very irritating.

I was on unemployment for the last 2 years as well. Central wanted to see unemployment forms dating back to the beginning. Also I had to send in character statements. I don't see why it should be a problem. Especially with the way the economy is.

It's my understanding that they are not just looking to see if you were goofing off, but to make sure you weren't in prison or have job history you are not telling them about.

I was self employed for three years, but went back to working a "real job" after the economy killed my business. Had to provide an insane amount of paperwork to some companies to prove what I was doing, and I am convinced that it is one of the reasons I had such a hard time finding a company to give me a job.

I still don't understand why it's so easy to get hired right out of school, but companies are being so picky nowdays about how they hire drivers who have previous experience. Isn't there supposed to be a drivers shortage?

Keep trying, and you will find somewhere that wants you, and you want to work for them. Took me roughly 100 applications and 11 months, but what I ended up with was better than I ever expected to find.

I think that's just what the schools tell us new students to keep our hopes high. "you are the future of driving"

Just tell them you knew the recession was coming, so you started preparing for it early.
