When I was a kid, my friends dad owned about 40 tractors, most of them KWs'.
I remember they had one of the first VIT 200 COE for the 4th of July parade back in 1976.
That was a special truck.
Then they had a beautiful Golden Nugget, remember that one?
It wasn't long before a guy across town had the area's first long nose VIT.
Wow, dark red on light red seminole paint.
That was just a show stopping truck. You are right, KW was the leader of the time.
Just, not anymore.
All in good fun! -
Well as soon as I find some of that awesome $1.00 per mile freight I'm gonna buy as many as possible. I hear you need to pull a van to get those good paying loads.

Reminds me of all the "cattle haulers" around here. Funny how they all brag about the miles they run but never the money they make. And none of them do it very long (I even have family members who own the trailers refuse to pull them). I guess they run out of places to hide the money.
Les2, HEAVY DUDE, Don2WS and 1 other person Thank this. -
i ran cattle for two years and i was aveeragingabout 34-36 k miles a month and money wasnt a lot better than running a dropdeck or flatbed
-
Wow Don2ws 35,000 miles a month? that's more than 1,100 miles a day 30 days a month, I guess you never stop for fuel or maintenance.
-
1,100 miles per day? Avg a hundred miles per hour? or maybe he just 'fixed' his logs and drove 18 hrs per day so he could avg 60mph.
I've heard some tall tales, but never 35,000 miles per month.
I gotta get out more! -
don't need a calculator to figure out that's BS
strat57 Thanks this. -
When I drove OTR I was told never to average more than 45 mph on the log book, I did a lot of driving in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia, and troopers there don't like that, now I know of guys that run to the PRK and they drive well over 75 mph, when I go to the Florida panhandle on family vehicle it's hard for me to keep up with the truckers in fear of getting a huge ticket, I have done 90 mph in occasions and still being pass by some trucks.
I know trucks are fast now days but what will be the fuel mileage doing 75, 80 mph with a full load 4 mpg? and risking of losing your way of making a living if you get caught at those speeds?
is it me that I'm getting old or is there a lot of drivers that just don't care?
when I say a lot I mean almost every single truck that I see on the road on I-75 and I-10 is exceeding the limit by a lot. -
You sure your speedometer is working? You should still be passing a lot of JB, Schneider, Swift, etc trucks at 70. When I run the speed limit in the 75mph states, I rarely get passed by a truck, maybe twice a day.

He never said he was getting a buck a mile. and yes there was 'fer sure' a bunch of log book fixing.
