I have 2 years otr experience and in late 2008 i was injured and have been unable to work and on disability since then because of my back.
No back surgery, Just fractured a few vertebra.
I got doctors clearence to return to work last month and everything is healed up with no lingering effects and nothing that would stop me from preforming any of the job duties required as a driver.
I was just woundering how that will effect my chances to get back into trucking and get hired?
Ive contacted a few companies (werner, swift, prime, cr england, ffe and a few others aswell) and they go by my work record and dont take the injury into account when it comes to why i havent been working or abile to since then.
Any advise on what i should do?

Punishing you because you were disabled, I would think falls under the American Disability Act for discrimination. That's a long drawn out process.

The object is to get your foot back in the door and you will have to go through a refresher course.

Was it a on the job injury? Workers comp? A car wreck with a mark on your MVR? Anything that might reflect negatively towards getting hired? Did you get your medical card back?

Answer that and we'll go forward. :)

Original question was about work history. Being out of work that long for any reason throws up a big red flag to possibly employing someone. Been There Done That.

Your main concern will be that companies require recent veritable experience...or recent graduate..two years is not recent to most. Like stated already a two year void in employment history will raise eyebrows.

you will have to account for your time out of a truck. which means you would have to explain the back, and you might also need a doctors letter. then you might (or might not) be told to go for back x-rays to verify there isn't anything wrong as they would NOT want to start paying out any insurance claim.

your time out of a truck would also most likely get you back to school all over again.

Try a smaller company or a local class A job. After 6 months you'll be able to go anywhere again, however you'll probably have to have somebody verify that you ran in 7 or more states, but if you do a good job for them, you'll find somebody to vouch/lie for you, or you might be happy where your at.

Have a doctors note stating you have no restrictions. And like the others said they will probably want you to do a refresher. A small company might not require the refresher but a large carrier more than likely will. I had back surgery for a bulging disc in Feb 2010 and I'm supposed to start my new job in two weeks.

You won't know about jobs unless you get out there. I can tell you from a major corp.s view if you just list a back injury they will not touch you with a 10 foot pole. They know from past expereinces that alot of back problems lead to more problems. So be ready for that. Even if it's not true in your case if you do not explain in detail they will pass you by. And it's no violation of any law because they just say someone else was more qualified.

What I would do is get a letter from the doctor that you back problems are over. I know they won't do that but take the time and explain to the doctor how big business looks at back problems. The letter will do you the best work. I hope you're also aware that your lifting life has to change. You should know how to protect your spine and do all you can to make sure nothing happens.

I was injured in a non work related accident in 2008 that forced me to go on disibility.
should i be concerened with the fact that i havent been abile to work or should i be concerened with the fact that i was on disibility?
How do trucking companies look at situations like the one im in?
Are there any dot regulations that might hurt my chances of passing the psyical and getting hired?
