That's part of what I was implying above. These rankings really aren't worth much. I see they are now using CSA 2010 data which may help in the future. Its all based on inspection data, crash data, and company audits. A local company that doesn't cross scales will not be inspected much. If you were carrying Molton Sulfer etc you probably aren't going to drive as recklessly as others thereby getting looked at less for roadside inspections.
How to Interpret Safestat's info?

Did you guys notice the rating for Watkins and Shepard? Not too shabby for a company that doesn't send you OTR with a trainer.
-
Why is that ??
-
Those things confuse me too. My husband drives for a company with a 91 inspect recommendation but hes always green-lighted through the coops and never had a roadside.
-
Well,
it IS run by the federal government !!!Mugsey Thanks this. -
Just remember with the ISS score that it changes allot.
Many times they will boot the number up if the company is getting near time for an audit.
Also if they do not have enough inspections on that company in the past 6 months they will boot the score up high for a month or so till they get enough.
I was running for a company a few years ago that this happened too.
They did not have enough info on them so we got a score of 97 for a few months. Once they got a string of inspections done it went down to 30.
I remember checking Swift a few months ago and they had a 92 one week, and 2 weeks later they had a 70. Now they have enough inspections and it is down to a proper level.
Normally when they are information gathering they will have the reason listed as safety. Or not enough info.
The best way I have found to use Safestat is to look at the OOS rate and accident rate.
Then I will also look at all the tickets to see what the patterns are.
If you are seeing allot of OOS for driver logs then the company probably pushes the drivers to go over hours.
If you see allot of OOS for maintenance you really need to look deeper
Is it flat tires? Bad brakes? Lights?
A tire is considered flat if below 80% of the pressure listed on the side wall.
So if it says 100 lbs and the tire is at 80 lbs it is considered flat to the DOT.
Many things go into the scores, so it is hard to just look at one number.
Also CSA will be out in the next few weeks.
And just because a company looks good under safestat does not mean they will look good under CSA.
Again with CSA, they will not post a safety score. Just like they do not post one now.
They will post information on the Basics, and you have to figure out for yourself if they are good or not.
It will be much easer to figure out than the current system though.Mugsey Thanks this. -
223 power units
DRSEA=29.24
VHSEA=30.85
I like getting the "go ahead" at the scales. -
Also it appears that new registrants will get a safestat rating of "95". I wonder how many inspections they need to lower that number...
-
Also does anyone know how far back the positive or negative inspections count for. I. E. past 18 or past 24 months.
-
On the company under Safestat it is 30 months.
On the new CSA it is 24 months.
The driver will keep them on his PSP for 36 months.
The rating will stay high for new company's till they are no longer a new entry. I cannot remember the full time frame. But they will have to get a compliance review after so many months, and it will be set after that.
