When you ask for companies you're going to get every type of company that has trucks. From U-Haul to the OTR. So you'll need to go through the list to find which ones to go to.

Don't call them. When someone would call my company we would just say no. We figured if you couldn't come out to us then why should we hire you. Besides it's much better to go face to face because you can gain alot of information when you're there. If you find a company that you really like you should ask them what it will take to get hired on with them. Let them know you really like their company and if they are not hiring now what kind of path would help you better. It shows the company you're willing to do what it takes and you're showing a good interest in them.

When you get out and look for a job the old fashion way you then know you're doing all you can. That's what I would do.
