I have been reading alot about how hard it is to make money your 1st year OTR, my question is would it be better for a rookie to drive team after his time with a trainer, at least you have the benefit of an experienced driver, and wouldnt you have the potential to make more money as a team, dont teams get priority dispatch? Also, any info regarding running team with: Schnieder, Swift, Werner, or Prime would be appreciated, they are the companies I am most interested in because they all do orientation near where I live (PA). Thanks in advance
Teams?

Good question ... waits for good answer

Teaming is only worth it $$ wise if its a Husband and wife team, when your spitting th money up its not that much more. Plus trucks are not that big, you might not want to spend that much time with someone.....Now if you had a freind you wanted to team with it might not be that bad and might be worth the few extra dollars you might make.....but then again you might not want to ruin a good freindship lol
From what I here swift is pretty good to there teams, I'm sure TXNana with be around and can tell you more about them....

While I've never run team, it is my understanding that teams get priority dispatch in some companies. However, you might want to know that the split is not always equal. At Swift, it was based upon the senior drivers experience and (I might be wrong here) a 60/40 split. But if your co-driver is a good person, you will gain a lot from his experience. Just weigh the options carefully.

Teaming,If you can find someone who you can get along with and you repect and vice versa...Teaming your 1st yr is a great idea.2 heads are better then 1.If you are sick he/she has your back.If you need to run a load hard..You have that coverd...It is like any other relationship..alot of give and take..compromise comes to mind.Agian this works if you find a good team mate and there are no suprises on the road.So I guess comunication is my last thought..

Understand you are starting at Stevens, do you have your CDL or are you going through Stevens training, and why did you choose Stevens?

After my experience of teaming with two newbies, I swear I'll never do it again. It's not worth the hassle. Good luck, but with the attitudes I have personally experienced, I would only team with someone of around my own age, experience and sex, and only then if I had absolutely no choice.
Now, if a newbie wanted to swamp for me, occasionally driving and generally being useful, I'd have no problem with it, since there would be profit in it for both of us. In fact, that is the way I would like to see the industry going, with new CDL holders riding with experienced operators and being able to benefit from the old-timer's know-how. Of course, the important thing here is that both drivers are on duty at the same time, so no-one would have to sleep in a moving truck. -
I am going through Stevens School. Im in my second week of school, 1 week to go after this week, then over the road with a trainer.
I choose Stevens for several reasons. Because of my work history over the last 2 years, Stevens and CR England were the only 2 companies that had company training that accepted me. I tried to go to an independant school first but they could not get me financed.
I did alot of research and concluded that Stevens was a good solid training company that stresses safety and good equipment.
I dont want to derail this thread so if you have any more specific questions, feel free to PM me or post in the Stevens section
eddytude Thanks this.
