Ok im a student and wondering about money in this business. Is it good or just fair? Can I really make a living with a truckdriver paycheck. Also is there any companies that pay you hourly? Thanks much.

The money stinks in this biz for the time invested + living in a truck.
The vast majority of trucking jobs pay per mile or % of the load, however you can make hourly pay at certain local operations like LTL, parcel, food service, etc.
Can you make a living driving truck?
For the most part, yes.
But the other side of the coin is that you will live on the job and have no time for any kind friends, family, social life whatsoever.GoneButNotForgotten Thanks this. -
Yep, what Paddington said. Really depends on your definition of "a living" and what you are willing to sacrifice to get it..

You can make decent money if you think of it in terms of how much you make per week, or yearly - but if you take into consideration the time you spend "at work" coupled with all the other inconveniences of the job, it might not be "worth" it.
Weekly I make about the same amount as I used to during my pretty well-paid 40-hour a week job, but hourly, it's pathetic - comes out to about $7 or so an hour, calculated just by taking my on-duty time for that week (from e-logs) and dividing it into my weekly paycheck. Not exactly scientific but gives you an idea.
