They changed their minds again....
EDMONTON, Alta. -- An Alberta Transportation spokesperson has confirmed to Trucknews.com that the province's far-reaching distracted driving legislation does indeed prohibit the conversational use of CB radios by commercial truck drivers.

Drivers lay down for pretty much everything that comes at them,so we get laws like this put on us.
Get used to it,soon CB's will banned everywere, period.
A ban in Ontario is coming into effect within the next couple of years. -
think manitoba has one coming in the new year also.

If this should come to pass with the same restrictions placed on CB radios, I would tend to think that the major manufacturers would come up with a hands-free mic system similar to cell phones. I suppose such a mic system would have to incorporate voice activated transmit or a steering wheel attachment of some sort. This could change the industry, and the radio as we know it today.
Or, it (any new restrictive legislation) could be completely ignored by CB radio users and overlooked by the majority of highway patrol officers.
This is just a reflection of the time we live in today, and how common sense and courtesy is dissolving under a society of selfishness and ignorance. There are just too many of "us" on the road today who have no business being behind the wheel of anything, let alone on a cell phone while doing so. These folks are making it worse for people like us, professional trade drivers, who do have the ability to multitask behind the wheel and not allow one's self to become distracted and cause an incident. But most folks don't operate they way we do. That's why we are classified as professionals, and hold Commercial licenses. One reason, anyway.
I sure hope legislation such as this doesn't cross the border into the United States.
Good luck to you guys up north if and when it does for you. -
I've had hands free CB on my Goldwing for quite a while now.

Would that use Bluetooth? Or something else?
-
Do they really even need this law? I can go weeks on end with out hearing anybody talking on the cb.

I understand that the fine is $172 if you are caught #### chatting and not using it for work purposes. I hate the fact that they leave the decision with some Compliance officer to decide whether or not the conversation is about work or not. I find Northern AB still uses Channel 19 quite a bit. And I wont be ripping my unit out anytime soon.

Our society has such an abundance of significant social issues to be addressed, yet this is where our tax dollars are allotted, chasing down errant CB cowboys??? Didn't they used to require a CB operators license 30-40 years back? Maybe this legislation will follow suit and be promptly ignored.
Sara Thanks this.
