Are you freaking kidding? If yes that's ok, if not you are freaking so stupid and uneducated as most truckers are. Do you put time that you going to spend for loading-unloading your ###### $250 load? Do you think about another ####### broker or carrier who will make at least $1000 on your ###### equipment? Do you think about other dissent carriers and O/O who do not haul this #### and you by hauling it make them out of business?
And all that for what for STUPID $2.00 per mile to MA? Are f@cking stupid or something?
IF THEY DO NOT PAY - YOU DO NOT GO OR GO EMPTY BUT NOT FOR FREAKING $2.00 PER MILE BACK - ASK FOR $4 PER MILE 99% OF THE BROKERS WILL SAY YOU CRAZY AND ANGRY CLOSE THE PHONE TO YOUR FACE! THERE WILL BE 1 BROKER (OR SHIPPER) WHO'LL PAY YOU $3.80 PER MILE - GUARANTEED!
What's wrong with you people. Broker do not make rates - you do. Hold your truck until the very end. Do not go cheap then you'll see the rates equal to shippers' rates. Do not freaking afraid of brokers! You make the rules, you have the freaking equipment on the rode - not them.
EDUCATED YOURSELF ABOUT THE MARKET'S DEMAND AND SUPPLY. IF YOU DRIVE THE TRUCK PAY ATTENTION HOW MANY THERE ON THE TRUCK STOPS. HOW OFTEN THEY MOVE.
THINK NOT ONLY FOR THE FUEL WHEN GOING CHEAP BUT FOR BREAK DOWNS (WITH WHAT YOU'LL PAY IF YOU TAKE YOUR ###### $250 FOR 250 MILES). THINK FOR THE TIME YOU GOING TO WASTE FOR THIS CHEAP LOADS. AND AT LAST THINK HOW MANY OTHER DISSENT CARRIERS OR O/O YOU'LL DRIVE OUT OF BUSINESS ALONG WITH YOURSELF. BECAUSE WITH THIS TYPE OF THINKING YOU'LL BE OUT IN 2 YEARS THE MOST. YOUR MONEY ARE RUN OUT SLOWLY - YOU DO NOT SEE IT NOW BUT THEY RUN OUT. ONE BAD BREAK DOWN AND YOU DONE, BUT WHY OTHER FAMILIES HAVE TO PAY FOR THAT?
So you want to "own " your own company

I am working with loadboards only for 2 years now and I am based in NE. Many have predicted that I will go out of business in two years without shippers but I am still here and I am growing. So, let me tell you that I took 3 times this kind of loads out of MA in the beginning of my career and I get that no profit is made there.
I charge to go to MA $4 per mile and up. And I am not losing anything if I will not take such rate. But I'll make real profit if I'll take this rate (with negotiations it often gets to $3.80 per mile). But this rate will cover my empty miles to NY, NJ, or PA to take better load from there.
Two weeks ago I send my driver empty to Pittsburgh, PA from NJ but it was worth it. My point is that do not be a sheep. Make your voice, think about your REAL expenses not only the fuel. Because especially for NE carriers there are a lot of tolls, taxes, and etc. Who'll pay for that? Your ###### broker?
SheepDog Thanks this. -
Your mixing words now and telling half truths. $4.00 per mile from NJ is about right. $4.00 from Cleveland is not right. More like $2.50 to $3.00. The closer the haul the more you get, the longer the haul the less you get.

So tell me oh wise one, you live in Mass, what do you do when it's time to head out?
-
Now what if you said screw that load and just deadheaded the whole way. How much money does that put you out? Now you have to make it up off of that 2.50-3.00 a mile load. I know that most wont haul for that cheap on a normal basis but if its getting you out of a cheap freight area and into a great one then why not?
If your running a dry van which I have never done nor will I ever do, how many Swift, SNI, and JB trucks are there combined? 50,000??? Do you think they wont haul that stuff for .90 CPM? There is no way to get the rates for crap freight hire in most cases because there will always be one of those HUGE company trucks right there to take it from you for cheaper. -
I did an experiment years ago and sat at home in Mass for a whole week waiting for something that paid better then $.80 to $1.00 per mile. It never came and the loads were taken every single day. I would call and call and it was the same story, that's what it pays, take it or leave it. When the week was done I had made nothing at all.
I headed out last Monday from Mass to Mentor OH for $1.00 per mile. 600 miles. From there I headed out West and now delivering this coming Monday in Mississippi. I did a total of 3,800 miles for the week and averaged $1.60 for all miles.
If your not running your not making a dime and in fact your losing money each and every day you sit without a load. The more miles you run the lower your cost per mile as your fixed costs do not change. That's probably a concept you cannot grasp so I'll stop here. -
O no I grasp that Meathead. It is that way whether your a company driver or an O/O. I would of done the same that you did. You did pretty good for the week. Like I said above those cheap loads that will pay for all your costs except paying yourself will be taken by somebody whether everybody wants to believe that or not.

" I know that most wont haul for that cheap on a normal basis but if its getting you out of a cheap freight area and into a great one then why not?"
i'd like to answer this, it's defined with one work........PRIDE.. -
With one work?

I don't really care if someone will take a load for $.75. I won't. I would rather deadhead. The only reason we have loads that pay $0.75 or $1.00/mile is because people will take it at that rate. I understand that no matter what I say on a forum or even to owners in person, that there will still be those who will take these cheap loads that actually cost them money to run. They take them because they don't want to deadhead. If they go into a dead freight area and cannot afford to deadhead out then they have taken a load into these areas for too cheap of a rate. I understand the rate averaging in order to have a decent week, but when you take these cheap loads you are only perpetuating the problem. Rates will never come up as long as people are willing to take them. Rates will rise until someone take the load. When a load is booked at a cheap rate there is no reason for the broker or shipper to raise the rate. It is basic economics of supply and demand. I can't control what anyone else does in their business. I can and do control what I do.
joasis and outerspacehillbilly Thank this.
