When I first read this thread, I wanted to start keyboard bashing, and launch into a tirade of abuse about how newbies are dragging the industry into the toilet and all that good stuff. I'm glad I waited.
Walstib has learned a lesson that will last him the rest of his career. In ten years he'll remember it and pass it on to the next gang of newbies. Rarely have I seen such a total climb-down and reversal of attitude.
You are to be congratulated, Walstib, on your ability to learn, as well as your ability to understand when you actually started to learn. Cones are a bit different to cars, eh?![]()
Backing a trailer is a no-brainer breeze!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My personal favorite is trying to back into a dock that was originally set up for 40' trailers. I'll spend nearly 15 minutes on the set up alone before I actually attempt to put the thing to the door. There is very little pull up room so you have to hit this "right" without the ability to straighten the kit until you are half way to the door.
On my list of places to hit is a dock that is inside a roll up door garage. But, the place is overloaded and now the garage is stacking up with crap.
The last time I backed in I had less than 9" on each side of the trailer and cab.
This one you have to come into knowing the last six feet you will angle the cab to the left to keep your mirror attached to the truck on the right.
Truck stops are a mess. Thankfully my day ends between 4 - 6 am so many of the spots are opening up and I can usually find something I can hit as tired as I am.
I'm comfortable with backing up .... right until I actually have to do it.walstib Thanks this. -

O.K. try this, I backed a set of pups, hooked, in the door. Got too lazy to drop, one guy had to blab, go ahead, I want to see this. Mention it on the radio, and you have a live audience. At the end, SHOW OFF. LOL
6 years ago, I bid on the spotting job, for 2 years, Best job in the world. I had a guy in management drive by in his car, turn around and say "I saw that, pretty good job, backing in".
I said, Thank You.
New drivers, practice as much as you can possibly do. The payoff is great, You never know who is watching.walstib Thanks this.
