I have an 03 FL Columbia with 908000 miles on a c15 cat with super 10. Has 10 virgin tires 95% new starter, alternator and batteries. new sleeper blower. Truck turns over, won't crank. Catapillar found no codes. Been told its just cold. Had to have it towed. Would like to sell cheap to someone who could use parts or fix.

What does, "its just cold", mean? I know on my old cars with a carb that meant, pump the pedal but you don't do that on a diesel. Where is the truck? I see your from Knoxville, I am from just west of Chatt myself.

The truck is in Knoxville, I am from Chattanooga. I don't know what just cold means. They told me if I could heat it up it would probably start. I took a generator and 55000 BTU kerosene heater and put on it Friday and the motor actually hit a couple of times but still no start. I was under a load so the broker sent out another truck so I had it towed to get it out from under the load. I was going to quit around christmas and I have put everything in it that I have, just didn't want the wrecker guys to get it for free.

Diesels start less readily as tthe engines get some wear to them, lots of reasons, the injectors put out less pressure and the engine has less compression and so, less heat is generated by compression. The whole thing means you are putting out unburned fuel from the exhaust because that fuel isn't igniting.

Road service might get it going by using ether, but that is something best done by someone experienced. If there is a block(coolant) heater, you might try plugging that in, if it works, that would help warm it enough so it would fire, along with the heater.

Them electronic engines usually fire right off if they will turn over. Maybe fuel filter problems? Don't know how cold it got down there but here in ohio its been down in the 20's and no problems starting. Don't get me wrong, neither truck jumped to life right away, but they still fired.

When you was turning it over was there any smoke coming from the stack? IF not your not getting fuel.

Thanks, When Catapillar sent the road repair guy after he changed the starter he used the ether. I believe it is a fuel problem myself. Just out of money to fool with it and don't have anywhere to work on it. I don't believe that the cold is that relevant except that it may have caused gunk to get a little hard somewhere. If I let it sit for a day no matter the weather I've been having to use ether to get it to start. Just didn't work this time.

Oh you 've definitely got something wrong. Maybe check to see if you have fuel pressure?

You probably need to replace the fuel check valves. Fuel is draining back to the tank. Had the same problem with one. Cheap easy fix.

I kind of wondered that too. It would be a pretty decent first tractor to run. Except for that super 10, I would grab it in a heartbeat.
