Hello everyone. I have a question that might seem stupid, but here it is. I recently graduated from truck driving school in oct., and I am having a hell of a hard time finding a job. I have been denied jobs because I dont have a 3 yr verifiable work history, I have been on disability for 8 yrs, but have worked p/t for 3 1/2 yrs which ended in 2008. There has to be a way that I can get approved with a company with out taking some bad job just to get a work history. Any thoughts? Thanks

If I were you I would not follow this advice. The last thing you want to do is lie about your work history, or anything at all, especially when trying to get a job in an industry that is heavily regulated by the federal government. They'll shut you down before you even know you've applied.

sorry, but this is horrible advice......

i agree about the horrible advice form the other guy.

to the o/p, try and get up a lawyer to write up a letter for you about your background. if not a lawyer, then some other professional that DOES know you, like a clergy, heck, maybe even your doctor...??

all you need is some "proof" about your background, then when THAT person gets called (if at all) you should be much better off.

one more thing, lawyer, doctor, clergy, you may still want to go to your bank and have someone there "notarize" your letter, but the lawyers letter alone, may not need this...???

I'm probably not the most qualified to answer the question but my customer mention JB Hunt more often than other companies. Those that know better may want to comment.

the companies WILL DO background checks. get caught up in a lie about your employment, you're screwed......heck, you HAVE TO account for all your time NOT working as well, and i don't believe you have more than a week or two worth of leeway in employment gaps.....i got "away" with some unaccounted time, but only because it was "short time", less than 2-3 weeks but i cannot remember for sure.

You need to be truthful when filling out an application. If you were unable to work for a time then you should be truthful in reporting that on your application. Most carriers will carefully check out new applicants. You might or might not get away with falsifying an application, but if you are caught then it will usually be reported to DAC that you falsified an application. That is a serious mark against you. DAC is a reporting agency much like a credit report. It keeps track of drivers and things such as criminal history, MVR, etc.,
