1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

it's the wind chill factor that sucks..the wind is pretty harsh and I wear alot of layers and every inch of skin is covered but I'm a wimp when it gets cold..:biggrin_2559:..lots of spare gloves..and be prepared to do lots of chaining..I don't mind it as I've found an easy way that works for me so I get it done pretty quick..the roads are a blast when they are dry and good but now they're slick so be prepared to get some booty muscles and a creased seat..:biggrin_2559:

understand this is only my opinion but I would never use my own rig over there..the abuse our trucks go through is unreal..this isn't high way driving..I thought about buying my own outfit but truthfully the shelf life of your truck deminishes 10 times faster on the roads we have to take..the Co. I work for doesn't take O/O any more but there are Co. over there that do but if you like your truck you'll decide to be a company man..:biggrin_25525:

I have to agree. For the amount you get paid, why would you want to own a bolt in it ???
When you come off shift, you spend the rest of your waking ours service]ing and fixing etc.

I'm a flatbed driver who was born and raised in the oilfield so that's about the only hauling I do. As has been mentioned, with a X endorsement, you can get a job quickly. Pennsylvania is also booming along with N.D.
I like to do is keep up with where the rigs are moving and which states are gaining and which are losing rigs

    Latest drilling report
US drilling activity increased by 26 rotary rigs to 1,713 working this week, marking the first time since 2008 that the US weekly rig count has exceeded 1,700 units.

The latest count compares with 1,141 rotary rigs drilling in the same period a year ago, Baker Hughes Inc. reported.

Land operations accounted for most of the gain with an increase of 26 units to 1,673 working. Inland waters activity, however, decreased by 3 to 17 active rigs. That was offset by the increase of 3 rigs drilling offshore to a total of 23, all in the Gulf of Mexico.

Of the US rigs working, 961 were drilling for natural gas, an increase of 8 from the previous week. The number drilling for oil gained 18 to 742. There were 10 rotary rigs unclassified. Horizontal drilling increased by 18 units to 966. Directional drilling gained 2 to 218.

Among the major producing states, Oklahoma’s rotary rig count jumped by 9 to 151. Wyoming was up 6 to 47 units drilling. Texas gained 4 to 749, and Alaska increased by 3 to 9 rigs drilling. Louisiana and North Dakota added 2 rigs each for respective totals of 176 and 143. Pennsylvania, Colorado, Arkansas, and West Virginia were unchanged at 103, 67, 36, and 24, respectively. California’s rig count declined by 1 to 34. New Mexico was down 2 to 65.

Canada’s rotary rig count gained 34 rigs with 449 drilling this week, up from 364 in the comparable period last year.

and also because it is such a boom in ND good luck finding an available mechanic when you need it so you better be very schoole in deisal mechanics even if you sign on with a Co. you can bet your sweet bottom that Co. trucks will be first in line for repairs but I'm sure there are others who are actually doing the O/O thing and making bank but from my first hand experience for every truck we get fixed 2+ break down..ND is also in desperate need of mechanics..:biggrin_255:

I'm just hoping that by the time I can actually find a company to take me on, there will still be work for a while up there. I think I may go buy an RV and move up there to knock on the doors of every company I can find until they succomb to my never ending ranting about trying to gain employment through them. Hmmmm much like I whine and moan on this forum about getting an oil field job lol.......... just sayin....

P.s. gdyupgal your my hero for all the help and useful insight you provide.
