marines are def. the most hardcore service. those guys never just turn it off and relax. But i have so much respect for them.
that 20 year pension is tempting to try and get. 10 if your an officer.
try another branch if you want a more relaxed service.

i have heard nothing but bad things about owner operators. too much risk.

as others have posted you may be limited who you can work for with the '98, and in the near future could be prohibited from the left coast with it too.

Not bad for people who has a well maintain & paid for truck and are good with money. The number 1 thing is you must have maintnance $$$ to the side at all times & stay on top of small problems & inspect your truck daily b4 hitting the road. I'v been o/o for 4 years now & i would'nt think about being a company driver again, I love it.And i would never tell anyone not to get their own BECAUSE FAILURE IS UP TO YOU. I know alot of o/o that went under, but it never was the carrier, freight, shipper, broker ect, FAULT,it was always their own.If the carrier or broker you are with is not working out, then you have a choice to move on.THERE IS STILL GOOD MONEY OUT HERE FOR O/O other wise i would'nt still be an o/o. As i was told the first time i brought my truck is that THIS IS NOT A GET RICH FAST GIG.If you can run hard as a company driver then run hard for yourself also.MOST O/O GET VERY LAZY JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN WORK WHEN THEY WANT TO & LATER WONDER WHY THEY FAILED. BUT THEY NEVER BLAME SELF..... I WISH U SUCCESS WHATEVER YOUR CHOICE MAY BE.

Also alot of companies don't care about what year the truck is because some of the older trucks are in better condition then some late model trucks. They just want a well maintain truck that can pass their inspection.

It's not that crazy in the Corps. Trust me. The Marine Corps is looking more and more like the Army every day. Physical Fitness is definitely more important in the Marine Corps, but other than that, it's not that different.

BTW, since when did it go to 10 year retirement for officers? :biggrin_2556:

Join the state police and become a DOT officer seriously your military rank will advance you there you benefits and retirement will continue and you can also join the Guard. Most law enforcement agency prefer military. You might want to look into this I wish I had done it but my cousin waited til I was to old to join to tell me. He is retired with a total 40 years with full pay and benefits. I served 10 years US Army got out drove for an OTR company 2 years went in for an interview with the state police but decided to go to work for a union company. If I had it to do over I would and would have been retired with 30 years full benefits at the age of 48 and still clearing more money than I am now with out all the headaches. If not the state police check into other government jobs :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Plus If I am ever I Ca I'll know there is a DOT cop that understand the business and you might can help me out of a bind or give me a break
But if things go bad and you stop me it wasn't me that recommended this

I have never understood why everyone makes a giant deal about Marines,,,now right off the bat there will be those that get pissed off by my comment. Before you start posting, let me finish. As you know I am current Military and I have former Marines in my unit and have served with many others. My father in-law was a former marine, I say was because he has passed. I know the Marines have a different job than the Army, Navy, AirForce and Cost Guard but we all hava a job to do. The name the Army grunts give the Marines is Bullet Catchers.. I know they, as a whole, do the more dangerous jobs, but not always. Army has Rangers that do some pretty dangerous jobs but yet the news always uses the statement; Soldiers and Marines. Are Marines not soldiers?

    HOOAH!

marines are soldiers but just much much better trained.
marine boot camp is 12 weeks of hell.
i think army boot camp is between 6 and 8 weeks.
they really want to invest the time into a marine to make him a killing machine. not so much with the army.

but hey, we are all on the same team. the marines are just the guys who kinda go into a war zone first. But army rangers are a whole different story.

I'm pretty much in it to win it right now. Just got my truck fired up.... that Detroit S60 sounds like a beast buy the way. Got a set of 1000 CCA interstate batteries today as well. I have many questions about this motor if there any detroit gurus out there. I've ran it for a few miles only til got word from dispatch for a load.

I'm leaning on hitting up a priot service recruiter to go reserve, only thing with that is, they aren't beating down ur door as a prior service either. Even as an honorable discharge , meritorious promotions here n there... they don't get much credit for prior service like myself. I'm looking for an old buddy that I found out is a recruiter now.. weekend warrior and a owner op doesn't sound bad so far. I got out of military for a few reasons and none have to do wih my performance or attitude.. I can still outrun and outperform many on PFT phys fit test) I thank u for all ur post and opinions... I will get back to some comments later when I have better connection. Have an outstanding day gentlemen (and Ladies).
