The right O/O is critical. One that will take care of truck issues, but let you run your business. And an O/O that will not lie to you to get you in the truck, then present a laundry list of problems with the truck, expecting his new driver to go on the "fix as you drive and earn me money" plan. If a newbie to the business, you need a teacher who can patiently teach you the ropes, and explain the decision-making process.
As for waiting, I am laid over many weekends. Drop off Friday, pickup Monday. Rent a car and see the sights......eat at a good restaurant.... Not much waiting on loads. Strategy. Even a lower paying load beats sitting.....
