Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to take a minute and introduce myself and my husband. He is very very new to trucking and I have loved getting some great information from this forum.
I have met many truckers where I work and they all have been so helpful and open with information. I certainly have a new-found respect for this line of work and this lifestyle.
I would like to ask a question or I guess just get some advice please... I work in sales and service for a credit union and that is where we got the idea for going into trucking. My husband lost his job due to the recession and then tried some 100% commission work and it did not work out. He is 61 and the job market is hard now so this guy said to tell him to get his class A CDL and then he could get him hired. I went online and checked out some schools and then the guy said no don't do it that way, paysomeone to practice in their truck and take the test. Well he did and now he has been driving for about 4 months.
I am not going to name the company he works for but it has been absolutely crazy and he really needs to work and we don't know how to proceed. He needs more training and they are out of "trainers" right now. What is the best way to get with a new company?
Thanks!!!!!![]()

So, is he sitting home waiting for another trainer? After 4 months, he should be trained and ready for the solo adventure. BTW, welcome aboard.
jennyrjd Thanks this. -
Good Luck and Welcome to the forum

Welcome aboard and good luck to your husband. I agree with Allow me. He should already be trained by now. I am not sure how other companies will handle your husbands situation. Most want you to show a school that you went to before they hire you. The best thing to do is just ask around to different companies and see what their procedures on his situation would be

Hi and welcome to the forum.

No, he is not just sitting around waitin for a new trainer. He went to Schneider's orientation and made it to the final road test and he didn't pass that. The guy he tested with said his skills were not at the level they wanted for an experienced driver. He mainly did night time OTR with his first company and the orientation with Schneider was city driving. He did get to get some good practice with backing.

He has a call from FFE and Transam and Transport america and USA truck that he is following up with. I told him to get as many prehires as possible because that is what I read on this forum.
Thanks for the input everyone. I will keep you updated on how it goes. -
stay away from trans Am I know that from the forum here...USA Transport America and FFE are all about the same. the big companies are what we reffer to as driver mills...lots of drivers in and out of them...but we all had to start somewhere.....but yeah keep digging he'll get something

Welcome aboard. Am I missing something here? I don't see anyone hiring the guy with zero experience or schooling....especially Schneider. That they are even talking to him about a trainer is sort of perplexing to me. Good luck to you.

Ooops, missed the part about an un-named company hiring him 4 months ago. I can't believe there is anyone or any company out there that would turn a guy with no experience loose in a Class 8 vehicle..simply unbelievable. Thats quite a feat with todays traffic and road conditions. My hats off to him for not hurting himself or anyone else.
