i answered a similar ? on page 32 post 314. You will average 2500 miles a week or 10000 a month, 120k a year on national flat. Yes, is freight is slow or they need something covered they might put you on a curtain or a van. This is an advantage of going flat, if van freight is slow and you pull a van you sit. If flat freight is slow there are other options. This really only happens around the holidays though.

Sleepy,I cant help with the flatbed division. However I was very pleased with the van division, and I imagine they are pretty much the same.I was usually dispatched within 15 or 20 min.after delivering a load. The only times I was at a truckstop for an extended period was when I asked not too be dispatched til the following morning.Sometimes ya gotta catch up on your rest, especially when you are in your late 60s.when I had to call in live, whether it was my dispatcher ,(DSR) or weekend or night dispatch I always got an honest right to the point answer. There was only one time I had a pay problem, and one phonecall to payroll straightened that out.Personell at the terminals are very freindly and helpful.I think you have made a wise decision by signing on with roehl.Good Luck.

Road Dog, I told hubby you had retired and he told me to tell you Good Luck and enjoy retirement and that it was nice meeting you on the road. He is now a trainer just finished the orientation. His new truck number is 6898. Gonna play that number in the lottery. LOL Sounds like a winner to me!

Whispers, glad to hear your hubby is finally into training.I hope he likes it.Now he has a condo,so if he takes you out for a trip it will be more comfortable.I took my wife out for a week over Xmas, and although she enjoyed it the sleeping situation wasnt all that great.I am a big guy,and the extra bunk would have been nice.Anyway tell your hubby to KEEP ON TRUCKIN>

I am getting ready to enter CDL school next week and was hoping to work for Roehl. I had applied and gone through that start of that. I talked to the recruiter yesterday and find out that they had put my app through to the committee who denied it because I had too many short lived jobs over the last 3 years. Without being able to describe that just about 2.5 years ago I was laid off from a Logistics Engineering position (a career in which I have 21 years experience) and have not been able to find a permanent job in that career without having to relocate which for personal reasons I won't. I have had a few part time positions to pay the bills and have moved around because it is a big difference between $8 and $10 per hour and 20 vs 40 hours a week. Don't matter! Not enough job stability. We want to hire someone to drive our trucks we just don't want anyone who might have ever changed jobs - is I suppose the thought process. Pretty impersonal process - never a real interview - just fill out the internet paperwork and be sure to fax your signature.

Oh well - there are other good ones out there. I will keep going.

Good luck all with Roehl and all who want to be there.

Call Roehl and talk to them personally. 1-888-627-6345. Explain to them that you had 21 years with a company prior to now. It can't hurt and they will know you are really interested beginning a long career. It can't hurt and hopefully it will get you hired. Good Luck. OK I see where you had talked to someone. Call again and talk to someone else and explain to them your situation. Good Luck. PS stay away from JB Hunt!
