Hello all. I am currently in school and I plan to team drive with my brother, who is an owner operator. I have been looking for a company that would allow my brother to lease on then allow him to train me when I'm out of school. So far, CRST seems to fit the bill.
I would like some honest opinions about life at CRST for owner operators. I would prefer to hear from current CRST drivers. I also would appreciate facts and not opinions and conjecture. Do you like or dislike the company? Why?
Please, no broad generalizations about the company. I know they aren't "out to get" specific groups of drivers, and they're not part of some evil plan to train people then fire them so they collect government money. I would like to hear about situations that you specifically have experienced (nothing about a cousin's friend's brother's uncle who worked there 15 years ago).
I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I'm a very practical person. I don't have any illusions about the trucking industry. I know no company is perfect. I know i'll have to sit sometimes. I know I won't get rich my first year out. I'm mainly concerned with getting miles and supporting my family.
Thanks for any info you can provide![]()

I came to CRST as a company team driver with experience.. This is from 2008-2009. Right form the start my first load was from OKC to SLC , a pretty decent load..Once we arrived , we sat for 7 days waiting for the next one....Load after load either cancelled or whatever....I did take two urine tests!! I never consistently seen 4-5000 mls per week..Never!! I was more in the range of 2800 per week..I do talk alot , and every new team member that i talked too came out and said 5000-6000 per week..whats the problem?? I am always early to pu and early when delivering..Yiu tell me.. The terminals like OKC and Fontana are disgusting...No way!! crst blows!! Oh by the way i made as an adjusted gross after the per diem $9,000.00

MeatWad: There should be lots of companies that will allow you to do what your talking about.
The main concern/question here should be will CRST hose your brother? Because he is taking the biggest risk here. Who is he leased to now?
I've driven for CRST but never as a O/O, but as a company driver I can tell you that they are below even your typical bottom feeder newbie starter company.
I did my time and made the best of it and got out of there. I wouldn't expect them to treat their O/O's any better than their company drivers.
Awww Crap, I didn't see that this thread was nearly a year old. I really need to start looking at that. None the less it's all still true.Last edited: Nov 26, 2011
