speed limits are set in the main core mapping database and this is updated to your TND upon a update to you. The updates on the TND Dock do not update the mapping database. These only update the POI's, Global POI's, and construction.
The next main core mapping database should be out soon. And before I gets asked, yes it will cost a reasonable fee. The main core mapping database cannot be given for free due to licensing constraints.

A week in & it's doing well. I was going to report some speed limit discrepancies, but see that they are part of the core map, so I won't. Sometimes it's a bit slow to respond to a screen tap and a couple of times it has "auto zoomed" out enough to see the entire southeast... strange, but not really an issue issue.
I have our old Garmin on the dash as well because it shows the upcoming cross street & leaves a breadcrumb trail. Neither of them picked the route we wanted getting into Leesburg, FL and the route out wasn't truck restricted, but had turns (through a couple of neighborhoods) that I wouldn't recommend. We could NOT make 1 of them & had to work our way over the 27 on our own. An adventure of our own making, since we know the way, just wanted to see where the new toy would take us...
Does anyone know of other mounts that will work with it besides the one included?
Or have any recommendations for an external speaker? -

(Please note, I do NOT excel in programming, building websites, or anything super technical...)
(Please note: I am NOT telling, or suggesting you do your job, or anyone from DM to do theirs better, I know your job is hard enough.)
A LOT of the complaints the drivers have, are directions from the Mapping database, I think it is Navtek? (I can't remember the name off hand.) If there are so many complaints, is there a way to look at another database for better directions besides Navtek?
Is there another company besides Navtek that provides the same database, but better quality?
A competitor perhaps?
I would think that if I ran Navtek and was getting weekly complaints that data from my company that powers the GPS that RM developed for drivers, i'd do everything I possibly could to get those errors corrected.
Reading your responses Mark, a lot of times is an update from Navtek, usually 6 months to a year to wait. That's a HUGE amount of time to wait if you rely on a GPS like RM.
I know it's a HUGE undertaking designing a GPS to help drivers that would use them on the job daily, to help plan routes to make the most money on the job with the fewest mistakes as possible.
I know mistakes do and will happen, but these mistakes are VERY costly to drivers. Anything from fines for driving on town surface roads, to Hazmat route fines, or worse, like having a truck wedged under a low bridge and property damage.
My main concerns as a driver:
I need a GPS to be as accurate as possible, because I will be driving Hazmat routes locally and maybe regionally later. Any bridges that are low I need to know about BEFORE I make the turn because I do not know if I can turn around, or pull a U-turn safely.
I have read that the RM GPS routed a few drivers on restricted roads, knowing it was restricted, and rerouted only after being on that specific road. That blame is not RM's, that is against Navtek.
THAT scares me, as if I am fined for being somewhere I shouldn't be in my truck, I am gonna pay that fine, not my company I work for. And also having the points added to my license is not an option. I worked too hard to get my CDL and then risk loosing it.
Ok I'm running at the mouth here, let me get back on track...
I read all the posts so far, and weighing your RM Gps with others, and waiting to see if the updates from Navtek are included with the RM ones.
I will read the replies that the other drivers say, hoping that their GPS are performing better.
It's a lot of money I will be plopping down, to use on the job, I just want it to be worth it in the long run.
I just think it's bad that it takes Navtek 6 months to a year to update errors with their roads.
Just some things that were rattling inside my head....

First off, there are only two mapping companies and NavTeq was RM's choice
You have to realize that once a road is finished or moved or a bridge changed, the results are not overnight.
Yes we work in the world of computers, but humans still fill the gaps. There are processes that are in place that once a item is finished then it goes up the process to be added to mapping database.
You may sometimes drive by a construction site and notice signs are still posted, but the work is done. DOT has to sign off on the work and until then it is considered a construction site still. Does DOT get out there the next day - nope, it can take a while due to manpower constraints.
I do not know the full scope of how the data gets from point A to B, but it does take a while.
Are their existing errors in the current database - yes, but Rand is working hard to identify and verify to get it corrected. Does Rand have unlimited resources - nope, so things are done at a humanly speed.
GPS's did not really hit the mainstream till about 2-3 years ago for trucks that were somewhat affordable to the average driver. I remember paying $800 for my first one and that was about 3 years ago. What did the drivers do before the GPS? They used the gray matter.
Use your judgment, MCRA, GPS; call the local shipper/consignee. These are all TOOLS.
There are GIS sites online that also can be researched to help you in planning your route. TX has a good one that actually shows the restricted roads. Do all states have this, some do and some don't.
Use the GPS for what it was designed for. A tool to aid you in planning your route.
Just realize the infrastructure that exists in the USA and Canada and the enormous effort to keep it all up along with repairs and new roads.
Thanks,
Mark

2) Somewhere in Utah on a downgrade (81mph)
I have a need....
a need for speed....

Well after sending in my TND500 to rand and waiting a month or so I have it back and it works. Good to have all the toys back on the dashboard. Even though it has been a huge irritant at times I'm still glad to have some of the features available.
Mark Kling Thanks this. -
