I've never been a trucker or known any personally (but come into contact with quite a few), but from what I've read about, seen on TV, on the internet, does such a thing as very small male trucker even exist?
The thing is my son (he's in his twenties) has been talking about becoming a trucker for a while now and I think he's getting kinda serious about it. What worries me, is that I'm not sure if someone his size would be able to physically handle the job and also if he'd get any crap from other truckers? I don't want to discourage him, but also want to be realistic. God blessed him with some things, but he sure didn't bless him with size. He's about 5'4", (maybe 5'6" with trucking boots), and weighs about 120lb. He's never gotten any crap from anyone once reaching an adult as he has a pretty big, rough looking beard, a mature, masculine face that can be about as intimidating as someone his size could be. One of those guys who you would feel confident beating up in a 1v1 fist fight in a bar, but probably wouldn't start something up as even though he's small, he looks like he's been places has a mean look, and the reason you wouldn't mess, is because you weren't sure what he was packing/capable of.
It's kind of embarrassing even for me to ask this, but I did some research cause i thought truckers had to be pretty strong to do certain things with their trucks and lift heavy stuff to pass a physical test i read. The truckers i've seen in real life were beasts. Even though it's embarrassing for me to ask this about my son, i feel that it's a very real question that could mean very real things. i don't want to discourage him more than anything, but i will do whatever is best for him. thank you so much.
i should mention that he wants to be an over the road trucker.
Small truckers?

We used to have a guy working with us that could stand up inside his day cab Peterbilt and mount his CB on the ceiling there. Still driving today for a different outfit. I can be done, if thats what he wants to do. There is another guy driving with us now that is 5'4 and he's been driving for years as well.

I see that you're a local trucker. Would it have any difference with him wanting to be an over the road trucker do you think?
-
When you say it can be done, are you suggesting that it would be considerably more difficult for someone his size, or that it doesn't really matter altogether? He is interested in over the road trucking only. i forgot to mention that in my first message.

Good, cause the only driving jobs available are for OTR drivers. His size is not really an issue. Just scoot the seat forward and lower it down. He will be good to go.

A friend of mine is what is considered a Midget, Little person. Like 4'6" He drove for like 20 years. Over the road. Loved it! We Teased him some, but he could dish it right back.

"size does not matter"......(that's what they all say, till they "see it"....
)
but seriously, i have had a few females in my classes that were very short, and they had NO problems. so i guess I COULD SAY..."if a girl can do it, he can do it".....????
best of luck to him, and have HIM join the boards....(it's MUCH better) if HE speaks for himself........(it kinda cuts him loose from the apron strings (if you're his mom), or the chains, if you're his dad....... (if you know what i mean).......Wargames, just lil me and Wiseguywireless Thank this.
