I've been @ TA for almost a year. First couple months didnt do any swaps, now maybe once a week or so. . The way I look @ it is Trans Am is a good place to get the the exp. needed for a better job. All these Companies that hire students are the same, but I'd rather start @ 30cpm than 26cpm like most wouldnt you?

I think it all depends on your fleet mgr if you draw a rotten apple your stuck with it .I worked for ta for over 90 days and was never preplaned unless it was a t-swap and then only 50% of the time I spent countless hrs sitting in truck stops or rest areas waiting for loads .As for drivers in truck stops at 1500 i usally started my days at 0300 because it was easier to access laundry equip and showers at 1500 than at 1800. Most loads i picked up for ta where allready late when i picked them up requiring creative logging to deliver. It was nothing to drive 16 to 18 hrs straight to arrive an hour or two early at the final .By the way i was an company driver I drove an 04 freightliner with a supper 10 trans not by choice but by availabillity a real POS my average checks were 300$ long loads were mostly multi drop loads requiring 2 days to deliver .At the end of these long hauls i spent a week or so picking up lease owners loads from neiboring states mostly multi drop requiring 2-3 days to deliver.Need to know more just ask

Well I'm not completely sure of anything else but a whole 15 months seems a bit short to be so sure of that which you speak.

If a company wants to lure newbies into their lease purchase program they are going to send their "show pony" to the schools to bs students telling them everything they want to hear. They are going to avoid the downfalls and try to put a positive spin on what is commonly known as the biggest con job any company can do.

If you stop and think and crunch the numbers you will see you need a lot of miles to cover fuel, truck payments, disability ins, truck ins, health ins, truck maintenance and road expenses (I'm sure I forgot something).

1800 miles or 3200 miles they still take out these expenses. By the way you also have the added headache of keeping track of paying all taxes.

You need to talk to actual drivers you run into truck stops or forums and listen to their horror stories of the LLP's.

The recruiter tells students that it's the driver's fault if they don't make it. Truth be known the company controls the miles a driver gets and not the driver not willing to drive or take loads. They know a stationary truck means no money.

I love it a recruiter gives his line of bs to students then all of a sudden those that have talked the talked and walked the walked are just disgruntle drivers.

i am wondering it seems to me that lease on operators are just making the payments for a new truck that if they were company driver they would get soon anyway i know the trans am driver i talked to AND saw his pay stub was getting $0.85 cpm and said he could run as hard as he wanted they had lots of freight he was a lease on operator and after truck payments were taken out his net pay was about $1,000 a week no BS i saw it with my own two eyes. I did not post this to start a war just wondering about lease on operators so keepthe shiney side up and the greasy side down

sorry whispers didn't mean to cause a problem the guy that came to school was a lease on operator for trans am not a recruiter showed me his recent pay stub not bad i personaly would not be a lease on operator for the above reasons you mentioned and the driver was a former student one thing that speaks volumes about a company any company that will hire a newbie like myself is the word of my instructor a man that was an o/o that has 4.5 million safe driver miles and he said trans am was a good place to start i am just trying to find a good company to start with any sugestions any one has i will only be a company driver i am lasy :biggrin_25520:

I heard england and anyone else that offers lease purchase program is famous for this little trick.

You didn't cause any problems. I don't know Trans Am as a company but I do know about lease purchase programs. I have no doubt that you saw a pay check for that amount. But it was only one pay check. My husband unfortunately did a lease op and we almost went bankrupt for the reasons mentioned in my post. One good pay check out of many low or non existing ones (my husband got pays of $66.00 and even -$54.00 most averaged around $230.00). Once or twice he got pay for around $800.00. That doesn't help when the majority of the pay sucks.

well thank you whisper now that you mention it i remember hearing something about that regarding prime from a trainer when i worked for millis transfer he and his wife almost lost there house also i personally would never do a lease op or ever become an o/o seems like to much paper work. i was under the impression that lease op's and o/o got all the freight when it was slow so they could make there truck payments while company drivers sat around waiting i guess thats a wrong impression. just trying to find a good company to become a company driver any help would be great thanks:biggrin_25511:
