Parking Your truck, Do you put in Neutral, or In Gear

I was always told never leave it in gear. But that is old school when the trucks had mechanical pumps and could start even with the key off. I always start in neutral and with my foot off of the clutch. My thoughts are it might be a little harder on the starter but better for the thrust bearing.

yes i thought the part of your brakes being that far out of adjustment would be self explanetory that it it shouldnt be driven
at border you have to shut truck off and not pull your buttons--those poor guys hear enough noise without hearing brakes dynamite all day long
how come foot off the clutch--i was always taught foot on the clutch to start--less load?
especially when it is nasty cold--even then you have to let the clutch out tiny bit at a time while it warms up -
If you start a truck with the clutch in you can throw the springs out of it.I have always parked in neutral and started the truck with the clutch engaged.

why would you throw the springs out of a clutch cause you depress it to start?
actually i have seen --think it was sterling--you have to depress the clutch to start -
Mine I always shut off in neutral but put in gear before I get out. Doesn't have to be in gear to pull the key out.Lilbit Thanks this.

I think it just boils down to driver preference. Leaving the truck in gear came from years ago when they taught everyone to leave the truck in low gear and chock the wheels. That's why DMV says to leave the truck in gear, they have no knowledge and are slow to change. However, I do agree with taking the key with you during inspections because you want to make sure no one jumps in there and starts to move if you're looking down between the duels or anywhere else slightly under the truck.
Any driver getting into the truck to start it should know exactly what gear the truck is in just as much as he or she should know all the fuild levels or anything else that might hurt the engine. It's called taking care of the equipment.dump truckin hillbilly Thanks this.
